While I did find some places to be slow and repetitive, I ultimately really enjoyed the story of Clover Blue. Blue is a young boy living in a commune that is the only place he remembers. As he reaches the age when kids often start questioning the world, he becomes fixated on learning about his beginnings. Heartbreaking and at the same time, hopeful, this is a beautifully written book set in SoCA during the 70s. #family #tribe #love #identity

Actually.... baby snakes have less control of the amount of venom injected. Adult snakes have learned to not waste their valuable venom on bites that don't result in a meal, so adult venomous snakes deliver more dry bites.
Not to mention that the bitten character here is already showing symptoms of serious envenomation, so it seems silly to say that it could have been a dry bite. 😡

Rant over. Herpetologist wife problems. 🐍

cherinium @DivineDiana Well, I worked on the animal health staff at a zoo for a few years, which is where I met my husband. He is a herpetologist and has taught me more than I ever thought I needed to know. Even as an employee who sometimes worked on venomous snakes, I had to have some training on the subject. Snake bite drills are a thing in zoos! 5y

cherinium @CouronneDhiver I understand. I was terrified of snakes until I had to give them medical care and learned more about them. Now, I wouldn't say I love them, but I am no longer afraid, and I can appreciate their place in the world. Some of them are quite beautiful, too! 5y

It took me a while to get into this book. But I did enjoy the story. The ending felt rushed to me. I probably wouldn‘t have picked this book, for that reason I am thankful for @Onceuponabookclub

So special getting to meet author Eldonna Edwards at the Adventures by the Book event last night, whose book Clover Blue is absolutely amazing!
Clover Blue is a special kind of story, that type of story where you really connect with the characters and get sucked into their world, their thoughts and their feelings. I thought Eldonna Edwards ability to get into the mind of a 12 year old boy shows just what a great writer she really is!

I thought the items were great, although book related/deco purposes and she enjoyed the books she read but sometimes they were not her particular style. Overall it was fun, but after a year she was ready to stop. 5y

I‘ve been looking forward to reading more from Edwards since finishing her debut novel, This I Know, last year. I was thrilled to have my #NetGalley request approved! Spanning thirty years, this coming-of-age novel opens with a birth in the Northern California Saffron Freedom Community that incites the titular character to start asking questions about his own identity. Heartbreaking, completely wonderful and unputdownable! Can‘t wait for more!
