1. Dorothy Dunnett (Lymond Chronicles, 6 books, read 4x) The House of Niccolo (8 books read 3x), King Hereafter, Dolly and the Singing Bird. So that‘s 50! Next closest is Lee Child at 16. I guess if you don‘t count the re-reads Dorothy and Lee are tie.
2. Summer night, listen to music, dinner on a restaurant patio.
3. Love a boarding school setting or Paris in the 1920s.
Third in the Lymond series and the great Garry Stu may have met his match. Francis travels to Malta to fight against the Turk and to fulfil a personal obligation and meets the virtuous leader and warrior Gabriel. As the action switches back to Scotland, Francis seeks to raise his own force to pacify the borders and Gabriel‘s action reveals that he may not be all his seems. The history is immaculately researched and neatly woven into the narrative.
A Pick but more because it is up to the usual writing standards of the series...I personally found it harder to settle into the Malta parts because I am less familiar with the history. Your mileage may vary.
I only just noticed this on the foreword page of my copy, which I bought secondhand 😲
This series continues to get better with each book. And darker. Much darker. Dunnett continues to shock me at the end of each book with the intricate plot and non-stop twists present in this story. Long battles, massive betrayals, utter depravity and fascinating characters. ⚔️⚔️
I love that Jerrott is completely terrified that Gabriel is going to fall in love with Lymond and leave the Order. 😆 I feel like it's a completely valid worry since EVERYONE falls for Lymond eventually. Well, all men and some women at least! 😉
I went out to buy a book for a friend, so naturally I had to buy something for myself as well 😉
So glad that I finally have all the books in the Lymond Chronicles!
Lymond Chronicles #3. A clash of charismatic leaders in 16th century Scotland, Malta and Tripoli. More battles and less music than its precursor. A rich tapestry of historic detail, intriguing characters, quick wit and plot twists.
