Starts with an international serial killer, they find a similar victim in the States, start to piece things together &find themselves up against a bioterrorist plot.

Scarpetta finds herself in quarantine & wow, this book is from 1997.. but it is clear example of why quarantine failed in America 😂🦠

A few side plots from prior books get wrapped up or revisited, but key threads are left hanging

This was an ok but not great read. Scarpetta was at her most annoying at times, especially after starting to feel sick with an unknown illness. Did she put herself back into quarantine? Did she heck! She was taking taxis, flying on planes, & generally being a possible one-woman germ disseminator. Fair enough she is a medical doctor & said she knew she wasn't contagious, but this was not the run-of-the-mill smallpox. (Continued in comments)

OutsmartYourShelf She was also pretty awful to Benton at times. His wife left him for another man following Benton's affair with Scarpetta, & Benton now wants to marry Scarpetta - whose reaction is to make herself suddenly unavailable. Even Marino was feeling sorry for the guy! 2y
OutsmartYourShelf There were one or two things that weren't cleared up by the end - were the Ireland cases related to the other torsos? Was Keith Pleasants bailed at the earliest opportunity? Still manages to just sneak in as a pick! 3.5🌟

5feet.of.fury Lol I wonder what the new books are doing, Scarpetta was clearly not built for quarantine. Two weeks? How crazy, she has too much to do. Then when she started feeling ill and immediately got in the taxi, had company, went to work the next day… repeatedly said she didn‘t know if she had it, said she was out of the contagious period… but didn‘t know what she was exposed to. Good gravy. Infuriating. 2y
OutsmartYourShelf @5feet.of.fury I think that about sums it up 😄 2y

Book 8 in the Kay Scarpetta series and I enjoyed this alot more than the last one. It was a really good plot and the relationship between Kay and her niece Lucy wasn't as intense and annoying in this book. She can be abit too obsessive about her niece for my liking.

Liatrek This is a series that I‘ve wanted to start for a long time. Hopefully I can get there this year 😊 5y
suzie.reads @Liatrek it's a good series so far. Kay can just be slightly annoying in my opinion 🤔 5y

Tried a Kay Scarpetta book, which I've wanted to do for a long time, as part of a challenge to read a book that starts with a title with the letter U. Unfortunately felt very underwhelmed by this one, enjoyed parts of it but in the end didin't really care what happened. Don't think at this stage I will be continuing with this series.

Starting my first book in the Kay Scarpetta series by reading Unnatural Exposure, been wanting to sample this series for a long time. Read it as part of a group challenge to read a book starting with 'U'.
