Extraordinary Birds
Extraordinary Birds | Sandy Stark-Mcginnis
5 posts | 3 read
For fans of The Thing About Jellyfish, a heartbreaking and hopeful debut about a unique young girl on a journey to find home.Eleven-year-old December knows everything about birds, and everything about getting kicked out of foster homes. All she has of her mom is the bird guide she left behind, and a message: "In flight is where you'll find me." December believes she's truly a bird, just waiting for the day she transforms. The scar on her back is where her wings will sprout; she only needs to find the right tree and practice flying. When she's placed with foster mom Eleanor, who runs a taxidermy business and volunteers at a wildlife rescue, December begins to see what home means in a new light. But the story she's told herself about her past is what's kept her going this long. Can she learn to let go?An extraordinary story about identity and family perfect for fans of Holly Goldberg Sloan and Lynda Mullaly Hunt.

#Ispy books with birds on the cover!
Thanks for the tag @RachelO 🤗🤗

Apparently the #MiddleGrade books I had borrowed fit the bill!

@TheAromaofBooks and @Buechersuechtling do you spy any books with doors on the cover? 😉 😉 Hope you will play along

rockpools Oh now, that‘s a perfect coincidence! What does the B in NLB stand for? In the UK, NLB used to be the National Library for the Blind which dealt with braille books (I worked at a related braille and cassette library - I‘m old!!) and every time I see your library books it confuses me a little! 4y
BookishMe @RachelO ahhh, that's interesting fact! NLB is the National Library Board, the governing body for public libraries here ;D https://www.nlb.gov.sg/ FYI (and you'll be greeted by the closure announcement 😥) yes, so glad I had the right books nearby! 4y
TheAromaofBooks Oooo I like the change up from cover colors to cover items! 4y
BookishMe @TheAromaofBooks me too! Thanks to @RachelO initiating the change ;D 4y

Saw the upcoming #MiddleGradeMarch and I realise its a sign to log back to #bookstagram.

I always knew my friend's account https://instagram.com/vinithacr
with her #mglit posts will be sole reason for me to return to the app. Tagged book was shared by the dear friend.
I don't miss posting there nor the overload of mostly redundant information.

Glad to check out her #middleGrade book posts esp when it means visiting the library again! Hehehe

Just finished my 7th book and going to call this #24in48 #readathon over - wouldn‘t have made the 24 hours as I barely hit 20 with about 3 hours to go. Still pretty good! My picture got caught off so the last book on top is the one I tagged!

Pickpick

This was a sweet book about a foster child trying to find her place in the world. As she begins to have hope for a forever home, she has to let go of the life she always imagined she‘d have.
