This was a light memoir about a family that buys and restores a house in Casablanca. I liked how the author came to accept and thrive in the culture. #FoodAndLit

I did enjoy this book, but found it a little hard to read as so much kept going wrong and people seemed to conspire against him. I love reading books set in places I have been, I read this whilst in Morocco which I think gave me a greater understanding of both the book and culture in Morocco itself. #morocco #travel #inspire #riad #culture

DebinHawaii Great photo! 💙 Welcome to Litsy! 🎉📚👍😀Hope you enjoy it here! 7y
Michelle_2187 Thank you @DebinHawaii I'm new to this so just trying to work out what to do! Glad you like the photo it was taken in a riad in Marrakech when I was there in April. Thought it was apt as the book is about renovating a house in casablanca 😊 7y
DebinHawaii @Michelle_2187 It's pretty easy so jump in and have fun and ask any questions you have. People are great and helpful. I bought a copy of this book at the library book sale but it is sitting still in my #TBR stack. 📚📚😬📚📚📚That is one Litsy thing--it will grow your TBRs to epic proportions! 😆 7y

Utterly charming tale of an Afghani-Brit's purchase and renovation of the ruined former residence of a caliph who ruled in Casablanca. Dealing with djinns, an unscrupulous architect, recalcitrant workers, Shah gradually learns to live with the rhythm and realities of Moroccan life.
