A determined young baker meets the challenges of a chronic illness, moving, starting a new school and making friends, and dealing with a grandfather with advancing dementia. It has a lot of heart, a great plot and characters, and realistic problems.
Loved it! From the very start I loved the main character, a middle schooler named Ellie who is a master baker, a feisty kid, and very family-oriented. Oh, and she also happens to have cerebral palsy and use a wheelchair. Ellie was so great to get to know, as well as her family and new friends. I recommend this book for any middle grade classroom. It was sort of like Sharon Draper‘s Out of My Mind (which is high praise).
I loved this one! Kiddos who are into baking shows will really enjoy this.
This is a unique and fun novel about finding your tribe, acceptance, and persevering in the face of obstacles. Ellie is a strong-willed girl with a mind of her own who is trying to not let her CP or wheelchair stop her from doing what she wants. This is a story of friendship and family. I really enjoyed it and believe it is so important for books like this one to be included in libraries so all kids can see themselves in the books they read.
