Emotional Craft of Fiction: How to Write the Story Beneath the Surface | 
pickThis is a must read for anyone who wants to make an emotional impact with their writing. The techniques presented may be take some practice to master, but they are presented in a clear and easy to understand way. As an editor, I‘ll be recommending this book often. As a writer, I‘ll refer to it just as much. This is not a sit-and-read craft book, it requires active participation, which is what makes it so great.
Minerva‘s keeping me company while I prep for #Nanowrimo by reading the tagged book. I‘m enjoying it a lot, other than the author using examples from books I intend to read. Some have a quick “spoilers ahead!” notice but some don‘t & they often contain what I‘d consider minor spoilers. It‘s annoying, but I can get past it because there are lots of useful exercises that I‘m sure will help me improve my novels. I can‘t wait to get started!

Where did I come across the recommendation for this? I have no idea, but I requested it from the library to see whether it was worthy of the glowing reviews or deserving of the disapproving ones; they were a stark contrast. Four pages in and I think it may be a pick — even the intro is tightly written, without a whiff of filler or sloppy thinking. 💖 A book after my own heart, which is appropriate given that it‘s about provoking reader emotions.
#emojimadness ? made me think of what I like to call my "writing resource & inspiration" shelves. I haven't read all of these yet, of course, but sometimes just flipping through them is inspiring, and I find books like 642 Tarot for Writers, Things to Write About & The Writer's Lab are helpful for getting warmed up when I haven't written for awhile. The tagged book is one I'm looking forward to, but just haven't got to yet. #writing
