Draw the Line | Laurent Linn

After a hate crime occurs in his small Texas town, Adrian Piper must discover his own power, decide how to use it, and know where to draw the line in this stunning debut novel exquisitely illustrated by the author. Adrian Piper is used to blending into the background. He may be a talented artist, a sci-fi geek, and gay, but at his Texas high school those traits would only bring him the worst kind of attention. In fact, the only place he feels free to express himself is at his drawing table, crafting a secret world through his own Renaissance-art-inspired superhero, Graphite. But in real life, when a shocking hate crime flips his world upside down, Adrian must decide what kind of person he wants to be. Maybe it s time to not be so invisible after all no matter how dangerous the risk."

Sometimes a book comes into your life and changes everything. This is not that book, but it did break my minor reading slump. It's funny, it's sweet, it tackles some big issues as the best YA does, and it includes some awesome art. The protagonist is super geeky and loveable but also totally a 16 year old boy.

If you've got any recs for queer YA not about coming out, please send them my way. Help, Littens, you're my only hope. #queerbooks

Crystallinegirl I'm not sure what you've read yet, but Girls Made of Glass and Snow, Dividing Eden, and Radio Silence all have queer themes. (the first two are fantasies, Radio is not.) I might have more suggestions but that's all I can think of off the top of my head! 7y
dylanisreading @Crystallinegirl I've heard of Girls Made of Snow and Glass and Radio Silence but not Dividing Eden. Thanks for the recs! 7y
Crystallinegirl Looked back over my blog, and I think I mistook Dividing Eden for Reign of the Fallen. (They were similar in some ways and blended together a little in my head.) So I meant Reign of the Fallen, sorry! Also That Inevitable Victorian Thing has a few different GLBT themes going on. 7y

Okay, this was probably the cutest thing I've read all year. It's no the best book, some of the dialogue is cringy, it's what I like to call "likeable trash". I loved Adrian so much, he's precious, and his friends are great. I also really liked the mixed media of the book, the author includes snipets if the comic that Adrian is drawing.

Snowy day, no classes, Earl Grey tea, and a book in bed. Talk about heavenly.

Oh my goodness I love this book. The start has been a little slow but I love Adrian so much, he is sooo adorable. Halfway done, I'll see if I can finish it today. Snow day is perfect for reading!
