**slight spoilers in the part about what I and issues with.**
Actual rating: 3.75

⭐️Even though it seems like I had a lot of issues, I still really really liked this book and will definitely be recommending it!⭐️

This started off really cute and lighthearted but it definitely gets more serious and has some potential triggers including transphobia, homophobia, sexual assault, and mentions of suicide.

1/?

mskayla07 What I loved:
-the characters of Pony and Georgia felt very real, and even though it‘s dual perspective with first person pov, each of their voices stood out very quickly and I rarely got their povs mixed up.
-their banter, the way the flirted was really cheesy and quite cute
4y
mskayla07 3/? What I appreciated:
-The discussion about pranks and how they can be dangerous. But I did wish a certain prank was addressed as sexual assault because it was. Pulling someone‘s pants down, including their underwear, even if they‘re are a guy and have pulled pranks on you, is assault, period.
4y
mskayla07 4/4 what I appreciated: the serious talk about lgbtqia youth and the rate of suicide amount trans youth
-about accepting people who are different and that if if you‘re scared to come out, there can be so much more love and support for you

#currentlyreading I think my reading slump is over for now 🤗 so far this is quite good! I enjoy both povs and the characters are interesting and already well rounded but the main issues I‘m having is the misogyny; there‘s weird talk about cheerleaders and thinking they can‘t also be complex people. 🙄

For a stand-alone fantasy that‘s quite short, this is a very unique story with enough world building and character development to enjoy! I really liked Fei and really related to her as an artist and the fantasy element was really unique. I really liked the ending! I did wish there were a sequel even if it didn‘t follow the same characters but took place in the same world but for a stand-alone this is really good!

This was overall, a really good, amazingly written, educational story about two people who love each other. I really liked reading how Gretchen & T grow as characters and how they evolve as people. They are definitely flawed humans, as we all are, and I think other readers may view that as problematic but I don‘t. I really liked the side characters expect for Carroll who was really transphobic & Gretchen‘s friendship with him really frustrated me.

For the most part, I loved this book! 4.5/5

I loved Janet as a character and I preferred her chapters overall. I liked Abby and related her a lot at the beginning but closer to the end she was starting to act a little selfishly. Rest of my review in the comments

mskayla07 the ending about caring versus love I didn‘t agree with; I think love can come in so many different forms that you don‘t have to be in love to make life matter that Abby writes but different forms of love can make life matter and so I didn‘t like the ending. 5y
mskayla07 For some reason, Abby felt a little immature and too young but then I remembered I‘m 7 years older than her so of course she‘d seem young. Some of her actions felt a little selfish and I didn‘t care for the romantic relationship she had with Lihn. But I loved Janet and Marie even though the end revelation broke me. 5y
mskayla07 Overall this story is heartbreaking, emotional, amazing and just absolutely wonderful. I loved the mystery and historical aspects and the writing was perfect. The diversity of the characters felt so real and easy and was definitely appreciated! Definitely one of my favorite reads of 2018! 🤗 5y

2/5⭐️
The Cons:
The depiction of Rochester and suggesting countless ones he‘s “too old” for Jane
Helen was the most annoying character ever
Charlotte was annoying especially at the beginning
A character is introduced in the epilogue that i didn‘t care for at all
The last 5 or so chapters were so boring up until the epilogue

The Pros:
The depiction of Jane
The mystery/supernatural aspect
The better ending for Bertha

Rowanwax I was quite happy with Bertha‘s part in the story. Everything else was a mixed bag or outright didn‘t like. Shame. 5y

The retellings are so unique and wonderfully written. The writing in this is so beautiful I‘m definitely going to read more of Donoghue‘s books. And I loved how all the fairytales are connected which I did not notice until half way through. So clever. I loved this, definitely recommend for anyone! 5/5 🌟

This was a very fast paced, thrilling read! The world building was so creative and unique, I have not read anything like this before! The writing was beautiful. Anouk was a very interesting character especially at the end. I can‘t wait a whole year for the sequel 😩 But I do highly recommend this book! It‘s a great October read and perfect for introducing urban fantasy to someone who is unfamiliar with that genre. 4.5/5 🌟

This was okay. The world was interesting enough and the fight scenes were well written. But I didn‘t feel much for any of the characters except Inge and Harvald. Eelyn felt like any other female character in a ya novel. And at the end, there wasn‘t much resolution other than the obvious, easy ending.

This book seems rare to me. I‘ve never read a ya contemporary book that deals with religion and questioning ones beliefs. There were many parts in this book I liked, and there were some tears. But there were also things I felt were unnecessary....

mskayla07 I liked Hannah‘s growth as a character, but I felt like Emory didn‘t grow as much. I felt Hannah‘s relationship with Aaron was uncomfortable and unnecessary. All the side characters apart from Luke felt a little one-dimensional. 6y
mskayla07 I appreciated the talk about sexual assault but the resolution felt rushed and then forgotten. The fight itself between Hannah and Emory felt much more significant until i found it more details and then it fell flat. I also had trouble reading the difference in Hannah and Emory‘s chapters; they sounded a little too much the same at first. 6y
mskayla07 Overall, this is very well written and deals with important topics like finding your voice, questioning your beliefs, and friendship. This is somewhere between a 3.75 and a 4. 6y

This was a good story. Somewhat interesting characters with a very interesting plot/setting. I really liked the writing style; it felt like the character was actually speaking to me telling me about her life. The sudden ish changes in topics were confusing sometimes but I did like the little drawings or notes she included, it added a nice personal touch to the story.

But overall, a good, well written story. The audiobook was decent.

Definitions of poetry v prose in comments. This is prose. Not poetry. That doesn‘t mean is as less value though. This book has some good prose and it could definitely be meaningful to someone else. But for me, I only liked a handful of the “poems”. It felt like the majority of this book was trying too hard to be thoughtful and empowering. Every “poem” also had the same tone and voice which made it all seem stagnant. I *almost* dnf‘d this.

mskayla07 Poetry: “literary work in which special intensity is given to the expression of feelings and ideas by the use of distinctive style and rhythm; poems collectively or as a genre of literature.”
Prose: “written or spoken language in its ordinary form, without metrical structure.”

My thoughts about this book are very hard to organize but to put them simply: I‘m quite surprised with how much I enjoyed this. I loved Jane and Rochester and overall this is an amazingly written story! The first ten chapters were solid however the story does drag a bit after that and it‘s not until half way through the entire book where things start to get more interesting. 4/5 🌟

3/5⭐️This was good but it was predictable. Gwen falls for exactly who you think. Bella is jealous as expected. Lily‘s character was a bit flat & felt like she was just added to be true to the original. The only difference this was to the original was that this had steampunk elements, and took place in our world with a war going on. Hook was a very interesting villain. Pete was super annoying. Overall this was a fun read but it fell a little flat.

I think it‘s somewhere between a 3.5 and 4 Stars
What I liked:
*the writing style
* The historical side to the story with enough fantasy elements to be familiar with the original tale.
* Evie, Nik, Annamette and Iker were all interesting characters and I liked Evie and Nik‘s relationship/friendship
* The plot twist/reveal
What I didn‘t like
* The flashbacks were a little confusing
* The ending was really really sad. Like, Unexpectedly sad.
