Kitchen Yarns
Kitchen Yarns: Notes on Life, Love, and Food | Ann Hood
6 posts | 8 read | 7 to read
From her Italian American childhood through raising and feeding a growing family and cooking with her new husband, food writer Michael Ruhlman, Ann Hood has long appreciated the power of good food. In Kitchen Yarns, she details her life with essays and recipes, spinning tales of loss and starting from scratch, family love and feasts with friends, and how the perfect meal is one that tastes like home. "Hood's essays are like hot chocolate, cozy and warm. Her collection of meditations on food and life touches the big themes." -- New York Times Book Review, Editors' Choice "Ann Hood is a gifted storyteller. . . . [Kitchen Yarns is] perfect holiday season fare." -- People, Book of the Week "These tales of ingredients, recipes, and meals will lift your spirits." -- Washington Post "In this cozy read, Hood shares recipes that shaped her . . . and the poignant life lessons about loss, love, and friendship she learned in the kitchen." -- Real Simple

After reading a novel in which a cookbook and recipes play an important role, it seemed appropriate to move on to this. I picked it up a little while ago, and now I don‘t want to put it down. Thanks again , @Crazeedi

Crazeedi I did the same, but once you read a bit more , you cant put down!! 3y

#LitsyLove finds me at the best times! @Crazeedi when you asked if I‘d like this book, I didn‘t expect it to show up less than a week later. Thank you 😘 Plus a wonderful note from @CBee After kind of a frantic Friday, you both helped make it a very good day. ❤️❤️

CBee I‘m so glad my card showed up on a day that you needed it ♥️ I hope the weekend is calmer and more relaxing!! 3y

This book reminds me of my childhood, even though I'm not Italian like Hood is. Her memories of food and family harken to earlier simpler days. Her heartfelt writing is a joy to read. I will get more of her books.
Thank you @kspenmoll for introducing me to this author and gifting me this delightful book!💗

Crazeedi @Lynnsoprano you will definitely love this book 3y

Pick up this book if you‘re a fan of memoirs as well as cooking. The author shares vignettes of her life and then ends the chapter with a recipe that reminds her of that story. I‘m definitely making this tomato pie!

Kimberlone Those tomatoes look INCREDIBLE 5y
emilyhaldi Are those from your garden?! 5y

I picked this book up at the Ohioana Book Fair this spring. It was free and it had the word “yarn” in the title, and being a knitter, I was excited to grab it. It turns out it‘s a book full of recipes and the author‘s life stories that she connects with certain foods. This turned out to be a happy surprise!

Reviewsbylola Wow, great find! 5y
emilyhaldi Free?!?! 5y
Mdargusch It was a library table giving away ARCs @emilyhaldi 😊 5y
