This psychological thriller packs a serious brutal punch. Blood Wedding was every bit the cat & mouse game you would expect of the genre, but in this Lemaitre added a degree of barbarism I didn‘t expect. 😳
Truth or Justice? Which do you want?

😳 I‘m only 28% into this novel and didn‘t think it could get more terrifying/horrifying. Makes you wonder about what goes on in Pierre‘s head!
I just finished the Red Queen by Juan Gomez-Jurado and it reminded me a little of this book - the book I compare all thrillers to as it was the best I have ever read. I read it years ago and still think about it sometimes. If you like dark, graphic, very twisty thrillers you need to read this one. The other two in the series are also very good (this is the second one), but this one is fantastic. Five stars!!

Alex Prévost is kidnapped, beaten and suspended from the ceiling of an abandoned warehouse in a wooden cage. Her abductor appears to want only to watch her die. Will hunger, thirst, or the rats get her first? Police Commandant Camille Verhoeven has nothing to go on: no suspect, no leads, and no family or friends anxious to find a missing loved one.
This is an incredible series for when you want to feel scared, horrified, and enthralled. Alex is a young woman who is kidnapped and beaten. She is placed in a cage suspended from the ceiling left to die.ðŸ€Police Commandant Camille must find her...quickly! And that‘s only the first 150 pages. Alex is not an ordinary woman. I am so impressed with Lemaitre‘s story telling. #MountTBR
I just finished this for my book club. When I started reading it, I was thinking "ok, this is a nice, fast-paced, gets-you-hooked kind of thriller, but it's nothing special, it's forgettable". And then I was like OH MY GOD. It was twist after twist. It was way more original than what you first think. I wouldn't recommend this book to people who can't stomach gory details though.
I read this book while I was in Europe, translated from French. It's set in various cities in France. It was very good, and different.

I've never heard or seen this book but the back cover ?? "Alex Prévost-kidnapped and suspended from the ceiling of an abandoned warehouse in a tiny cage-is running out of time. Her abductor appears to want only to watch her die. Will hunger, thirst, or the rats get her first?" Oh this sounds so good!!!
4.5/5 ... it had so many good twists ... he maybe went a little bit too far with describing some of the nasty details but overall it's an very interesting book
