Bailedbailed

Here‘s my review for a book I just DNF‘d. It‘s ridiculous how long the second chapter was. I was still reading the second chapter today at the park when I was walking my dog and the investigation for the murder is still going on so I decided that I had enough.

Release date: 4/29/24

The chapters in this book don‘t have chapter numbers. Instead, they are labeled The First Day, The Second Day, The Third Day, The Fourth Day and The Fifth Day. I‘ve already read The First Day. Now, I‘m reading The Second Day. I‘ve been reading this chapter all night and I‘m still not done yet. Will this chapter ever end? If it doesn‘t end, I‘m going to DNF this book because this is ridiculous. It shouldn‘t take all night to read 1 chapter.

Lol. The detective is talking to someone else and then his phone started ringing. They weren‘t finished talking to each other yet.

Lol. The detective went to ring the doorbell at someone‘s house and his phone started ringing.

I just started this book. It‘s another Netgalley ARC. I‘ve been laughing since I started this book. Every time the detective in this book is talking to someone, his phone starts ringing and it interrupts the conversation he‘s having. When he answers the phone, he says to the person on the phone,”This really isn‘t a good time right now.” Why do people always call him when he‘s talking to someone else?

Deblovestoread Or why does he answer and not just let it go to voicemail? 😂 1w

The final line-wow! Can I give this 6 stars? Giving voice to the victims & survivors of a serial killer character inspired by Ted Bundy, this novel is a twisty thriller, a look at how media depicts crime, and a moving look at resilience. No wonder it is up for the Edgar Award for best novel! And that final line!! #crimenovel #5stars

Finished thumbprint. Not my favourite read of the month, but decent all the same. The author's humanity and compassion shines through.
I read the French translation, and although it‘s perfectly serviceable, I am thinking that the English translation is probably better at rendering the various language registers.

And as feared from @Jari-chan 's post, keeping characters' names straight took a bit of effort, but I got there in the end...

Jari-chan Great you managed the names at the end 😁 and yes, it's a decent read 😊 4mo
Dilara @Jari-chan It helps that I was forewarned 😁- and to anyone else reading, don't be put off: it's really not a big deal (nowhere as hard as Russian novels, for example). It's just that I realised that I will conflate every 3-syllable name that ends with -er or every nickname that ends with -li and this is a book where you have to remember what comes *before* those endings if you want to keep characters apart 😃 4mo
Jari-chan @Dilara Right, Russian names are a totally different level 😁 I wish I was prepared, but if I'm going to reread it I am 😁 4mo

I am starting this #Swiss classic, which I've only discovered last week, thanks to a random YouTube video... I am not usually a fan of crime fiction, but the novel looked really interesting and worth pursuing. We'll see how I fare with it 😁

Jari-chan I wonder how you're going to like it😁 4mo

⭐️⭐️⭐️
I didn't like this one as much as some of the other CSI books. I enjoyed Warrick and Greg's multiple cases. The rest of the gang's story was less fun.
