Meh. I really wanted to like this more... I didn't feel like the plot really went anywhere, but it was a fun steampunk romp which was very enjoyable in parts.

+16pts for this book as a TBR... Brings my total for the week to 88pts for #MerryReaders #WinterGames

(2 holiday reads, 1 TBR read, 4 holiday movies - home alone 1 & 2, elf, love actually)

This was a pick for my specfic book club and it's the first book we've chosen that I won't be finishing. I've really enjoyed William Gibson's books in the past, but this plot just dragged on and felt pretty misogynistic. I struggled to get about halfway through before our meeting and based on the discussion I don't think it's something I'll return to. #marchreads #steampunk

1️⃣ Airship or zeppelin, since they are too functionally similar for their passengers to separate.
2️⃣ Eyes. I'm there already.

Pickpick

25th book of the year.
I FINALLY finished The Difference Engine. My brain hurts and I just spent 20 minutes all over the internet trying to clear up all the details that were still fuzzy. I don't even know how to actually go about reviewing this book, I can't. I can just say I honestly loved it and am glad I finally read it. Yay steampunk, the end.

I was so excited to read this book and must admit to being a bit underwhelmed by it. The concept behind it was great and there were many wonderful world building details, but I just really couldn't get into it as I was expecting. I don't know if it was the writing style or what, I'm having trouble figuring that out. However, I'm glad I finally read it.

I'm struggling here guys. It's been days and I'm only 77 pages into this book. I've never been what I'd consider a fast reader but I usually do better than this. It's not that I didn't enjoy the first part of the story but it just keeps wandering away from the story to describe in great detail machines I can't wrap my imagination around. I really wanted to love this and haven't decided to give up yet but I don't know. Advice would be appreciated.

ravenlee I tried to read a Gibson years ago and just couldn't get established in the story. I keep meaning to get back to it but it was such a struggle that I've been intimidated (almost 15 years, seriously). Maybe take a break and read something less taxing, then try again? 6y
tome.fries Yikes! Is there anyway to skim those parts? I've done that (sadly) to get through books. 6y
kristincatastrophic @ravenlee I just breezed through a YA novel the other day trying that. I thought if I could break it up it'd help but I just ended up reading the easy book fast lol. I think I may just have to put it back in the pile until August. My kids are already out of school for the summer so not having a lot of quiet reading time isn't helping. 6y
kristincatastrophic @tome.fries I usually end up missing things when I skim and also end up feeling a little guilty. I will admit to doing it sometimes during fight scenes that drag on forever, like ok he punched him, a kick blah blah, skim skim, who won? 😆 6y
Addison1 Maybe try taking a break for another book you‘re more excited about and trying this book another time when you‘re feeling it a bit more? :) 6y

My order from #Thiftbooks finally came in today. These plus my charity shop haul last week and my TBR pile is getting a little high. What to read first? I think I've decided though, that's why I tagged it.

This is the only book I have read that might fit the #Steampunk theme. In it Babbage perfects his "computer". I read it years ago, don't remember much else about it. ?#SeasonsReadings2016

Marchpane This is the first one that comes to mind for me too. Tried to read it years ago but ended up bailing 😟 7y
Suzze @Marchpane I finished it, gave it three stars. Really remember nothing about it. It doesn't even list a year on Goodreads, which means I probably read it in the late 90's. 7y

A combination #bookhaul and #Litsygoespostal #bookmail ! I am very excited to read The Gettysburg Ghost - it looks like a perfect short and spooky book for #AllHallowsRead ; thank you, Paradise! 👍🏻And, of course, I had to feed my short story collection addiction just a little w/my man Joe Hill. Finally, my wife and I got into a steampunk design show that made me realize I'd never read the Gibson book that helped start it all...

Suet624 I lived in Gettysburg and I've got to say that there sure are a lot of ghosts there. 8y
MyNamesParadise Yay! I'm glad you got it! And hope you enjoy it! 8y
