Any Zinesters on my Litsy? I love self publishing! Today was the Twin Cities Zine Fest! I volunteered as an organizer this year and had a blast! Tho not as much as previous years, I traded and received a lot of really cool stuff that I‘m looking forward to reading! Anyone else make zines or have a fave self publisher?

RaimeyGallant I love zine fests. 6y
Addison1 Woot! My goals are to make it to the Chicago zine fest and Omaha zine fest in the next couple years. Any gems near you that are worth the journey? 6y

The latest book my primary partner and I read together. It took us two loans from the library to get through. It was very powerful and wonderful. We had some GREAT discussion about it afterword. Would highly recommend!

Was generously given this by the editor at Convergence. A well curated and interesting intersection of sci-fi, religious literature, and sometimes horror! A quick read too. Would definitely read more in this genre. God Box by Lyda Morehouse, Three Young Men by Romie Stott, and The Chabad of Innsmouth by Marsha Morman were my top 3 picks from this book.

I absolutely chomped thru this library loan. Could not put it down. I‘ve heard it described as ‘like A Handmaid‘s Tale‘. It. Is. Better. Gorgeously orchestrated atmospheric storytelling revolving around 4 women. Each has a vastly different but valid experience.

Another book I tore thru last week. A collection of powerful and somewhat disturbing short stories that I will MOST definitely be reading again. I resonated so strongly with the final story ‘Bad at Parties‘. It‘s earned a place on my forever shelf.

I found this in the library after not finding ‘The Virgin Suicides‘. I was drawn to the intersex main character, but worried I wouldn‘t finish it by the due date. I finished ahead of schedule! A compelling story of an intersex man‘s journey of identity growing up in middle class Midwest, and the family history that brought them all to that place, with all the good, the bad, and the ugly. The pace felt like a beautiful glissando on a grand piano.

Addison1 I plan to buy a copies for my family. I think Cal‘s experience might help them understand my identity a bit better as well. 7y

Look at my review of vol. 1 for how I feel about this graphic novel. I hope the rest of the series is just as enjoyable. I‘ve heard so many great things about it! Btw cw for definite swearing and fantasy violence/gore/body horror. Also panels displaying nudity and sex. All consensual. (Imho None of it ever feels overly gratuitous, just right on the tone 👌👌👌)

I think some of my favorite writing in this vol. is the explanation of why salt is the zombie‘s weakness. It‘s culturally flavorful for us outside of the narrative and inside it is the essence of the sea, so disrupts the devil fruit power that is keeping the zombie animated. I just think that‘s brilliant.

A quick a amazing read. Modern Punk queer retelling of Peter Pan. I loved how queerness was present throughout and normalized both when it was and wasn‘t the focus of attention. Great book club pick. A fun and emotional ride about growing up. Cw: for some of the more intense moments of D/s culture, drug usage, and suicide.

A sweet find from half-priced books that I bought on an impulse. Was well worth it! A compelling read. Written almost too neutrally at times. I can tell the author was trying to avoid running into tangents. But still always compelling with manageable chapters.

I‘ve started rereading some of the more formative books from my childhood to look at them with an adult perspective. This is not one of them, but it‘s a YA series I missed out on as I was growing out of the genre when it was first released. I thought it would pair well with the Narnia books. And they do! Looking forward to book 2 and for more photos of my cat with this THIC BOOK. (She‘s my perfect daemon 💚)

Recommended to me by a fellow book club member after they learned I was a trans queer from rural Nebraska. WHAT A GOOD RECOMMENDATION. I identified with so much. It‘s had me reflecting on my current young adulthood and my relationship to where I‘m from. Also learned a lot from the perspective of a generation before me and a sexuality/identity different from my own. great for a peak into rural life whether you are queer or not.

bnp @Addison1 I read this a year or two ago, and also thought it was a good depiction of the Midwest. 7y

Saw that a friend had this book. Then spotted my mom and Grandma with it. So I borrowed a copy. A good read. Loved the short chapters since it‘s a big book and it took awhile to finish. Very adept at making you feel a lot of emotions and portraying war. A good book, but I am looking forward to a lighter book now. :)

Pretty obvious why G-ma recommended this. I was that different kid growing up that loved Harry Potter, and ‘quality literature‘ like x-men. Already a great read with unique and well written diverse characters with interwoven stories and imagination, but this book resonated deeply with me. I was tearing up after half the chapters. Loved it. Thank you Grandma for encouraging my different-ness, teaching me to love reading, and being my superhero.

So many rich panels that add so much extra depth to the story. 👌👌
