I liked this part about wanting to take a nap with dad on Sunday‘s because kids can make connections and relate to that and not feel so far from the story even though it‘s something they haven‘t experienced

I would defiantly use this book with second graders and up because there‘s no pictures and it‘s a story you really have to follow. This would be a perfect resource to use while learning about the Cultural Revolution

This is a biography chapter book. I enjoyed the part of this book I read because it was real facts and events that happened in Ji-li Jiangs life and a new subject to learn about

This book would be better for older elementary students. Students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade would enjoy this book more. Its a longer book so it might be better for older kids to sit through. Also 3rd, 4th and 5th graders may have more interest in the history background of the story.

This is a biography book. Reading this book would help children learn past historical events. This book took place during the cultural revolution. This book gives a great background of what ji li jiang went through and what her hardships were which would help children learn about this time.

Biography. This is a story I would love to continue. It‘s engaging and fascinating story about a part of history many people may not really know about. It would be great for older children.

Red Scarf Girl by Ji-Li Jiang, 1997. This is a moving story of a courageous young girl and her experience living through the cultural revolution. It is simply told but engaging, making you want to keep reading until the very end. This novel also includes a pronunciation guide which helps the reader understand the contexts better.

Chapter book with no pictures so most likely can‘t be used in young classrooms. Great story though that gives a child‘s eye view of a terrifying time in the 20th century history.

1997, biography. Memoir that takes place in 1966 of ji-li Jiang who was 12 years old. She was an outstanding student and leader and had a shining future in Chairman Mao‘s New China. All went downhill during the Cultural Revolution where she would have to make a decision of testifying against her father.

It was horrifying how quickly people turned on each other. This memoir captures the terror of knowing that everyone is watching and suspecting your every move, and that friends and neighbors might turn on you in a hot second.

This is a short memoir written from a young girl's perspective during the Cultural Rev in China. It's heartbreaking and uplifting at the same time. The ending seemed rather abrupt to me, but all in all, a pick.

Ideas are dangerous if those in power don't agree with them.

Starting this ebook. When I think of what the people of China suffered through during the Cultural Revolution, it makes me sick.
