Do Sourdough
Do Sourdough: Slow Bread for Busy Lives | Andrew Whitley
5 posts | 1 read | 2 to read
Do Sourdough is a guide to making your own sourdough bread written by the UK's leading authority on real bread. One of the oldest yet perhaps the simplest and tastiest breads you can make, Sourdough needs only flour, water, salt -- and a little time. In Do Sourdough, Andrew Whitley -- a baker for over 30 years who has 'changed the way we think about bread' shares his simple method for making this deliciously nutritious bread at home. Having taught countless bread-making workshops, Andrew knows that we don't all have the time and patience to bake our own. Now, with his tried-and-tested method and time-saving tips such as slotting the vital fermentation stage into periods when we're asleep or at work, this is bread baking for Doers. Find out: * the basic tools and ingredients you'll need * how to make your own sourdough starter * a simple method for producing wonderful loaves time and again * ideas and recipe suggestions for fresh and days-old bread The result isn't just fresh bread made with your own hands, it's the chance to learn new skills, make something to share with family and friends, and to change the world one loaf at a time.

So we‘ve perfected our sourdough starter and it‘s made the BEST pizza ever! We‘re in the routine now of feeding the starter before we go to be each night. Looking after sourdough is like having an extra family member! The tagged book is a great beginners guide. We‘ve followed it closely and it‘s given us wonderful results! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

PurpleTulipGirl Our favorite bakery does pizza on sourdough crust. I‘ve been missing it for the last 10 months, but they finally started doing take and bake last weekend. The crust goes so well with so many good toppings. 3y
Oryx I've joined the sourdough gang recently too. My friend sent me a kit that included Mildred, a seven year old starter. So now Mildred is happily residing in the fridge (I'm trying really hard not to kill her). I've made a couple of loaves so far, and turned out pretty good. Might need to add pizza to the repertoire. 3y
Mitch @PurpleTulipGirl us too! We used to have it every Friday - but it‘s been 10 months and we were missing it so much we‘ve branches out to make it at home! 3y
Mitch @Oryx ahh - I feel a bad sourdough parent now that I haven‘t named the baby! 3y
Oryx @Mitch Well, she came pre-named so I can't take credit. Still plenty of time to name yours. Dough-rothy? Dough-glas? 3y

Enjoying this process. We‘ve made and been feeding our own starter for a week, yesterday we made the levain and today it‘ll be ready to shape into a sourdough pizza base 🍕

Thank you so very much @jenniferw88 for this lovely basket of goodies. I ❤️ marzipan so much and there is never a better time to Do Sourdough than now - I‘m going to dive into that next week and enjoy the process of 24 hours to make a loaf. Thank you for all the lovely lovely treats - couldn‘t have come at a better time 💕
