I usually dislike the throwing a character into a vastly different world thing. However this book make me realise what I dislike is the several chapters of whinging which usually follows a dislocation. Gladstone successfully avoids this by establishing Viv as a problem solver. So even as she is wondering at what is happening she remains active. This is a pacy, engaging, adventure with that bit of extra quality. Fives stars.

🚀Empress of Forever by Max Gladstone. It was SO GOOD! Space hijinks, unique characters, solid LGBTQ representstion, and lots and lots of humor! 😁

Not as strong as Gladstone‘s brilliant Craft Sequence, but absolutely engaging regardless. There are more bits here I skimmed than Gladstone‘s more character-driven Craft books, big space battles that didn‘t grip me as I hoped, but the world building is, as always, absolutely top shelf, and Viv is one of Gladstone‘s great leads : Driven, damaged, brilliant, but with a core of vulnerability that helps her stand out.

Unfortunately, I just can‘t get into this book. I love Mac Gladstone‘s Craft Sequence and so had very high hopes for this, but I just wasn‘t sucked in by the story. I may try to read it again later, but for now it‘s adios.

This was one of my highly anticipated reads of the year because I love Max Gladstone‘s Craft Sequence. However, I‘ve been reading it since Monday and have barely gotten past the 100 page mark. I haven‘t felt inspired to pick it up and I don‘t know why. So I‘m going to set it aside for the moment and try something else.

These 4 books are from 2 different libraries: the Princeton Public Library and the Margaret E. Heggan Free Public Library! I own so many books that are still unread, but whenever I go to the library I can‘t stop myself from taking out more!! 🤷🏻‍♀️🙈

Have I mentioned that I love Max Gladstone?

I really ❤ Max Gladstone, so I'm super excited to read this

Well the ARC I got turned out to be only half the book, but it is really good. Now I'll have to buy the damn thing next month when it releases. Lol.

Anyway. This book is about as action packed as it gets. Be ready for scene after scene to rush forward at full speed. The only down side is I felt a little lost at some places, but I think that was sort of part of it since the MC is lost. Good, strong characters. Lots of fun. I would recommend.
