Not really feeling this book so far. A lot of the stories are "this random thing happened then this random thing" like my 7 year old would tell.
Do you think there are too many ladies in Grimm's fairy tales? This might be the collection for you. Do you think other fairy tales have too many words and things like character and plot? Then this might be the collection for you. Do you wish that stories read more like a child's book report? Then this definitely is the collection for you! I can't adequately express how disappointed I am with this book. Fifth for #bookisholympics
Ok, so I admit to loving fairy tales despite how problematic they tend to be. Women rarely have any true agency in them... And this person is bemoaning the fact that boys didn't have enough presence in Grimm's fairy tales, and this newly discovered set of tales sets that aright? This does not bode well for my enjoyment of the oncoming stories. (Sad bonus: this intro was written by a woman š)
I'm 20 minutes from the "starting bell" of the #bookisholympics and I've got my #tbr stack ready to go. Let's see how many of these I'll be able to finish by the end of the week #goingforthegold
Lots of princes and marriage, lots of women and girls who cry and wait for a nice coincidence or to be saved and don't really do much to help their situation. What's disturbing is that old and ugly = bad/evil and young and beautiful = good/virtuous
