Ideas and principles transcend time and place. They are carried only temporarily within the minds of man, but are carried eternally within the words of books. If only people humbled themselves before the accumulated knowledge of all those who went before us *sighs* 😔.

Pulled out my new read while taking a break by this guy yesterday. He's very solemn. Guess it goes with having to guard the library 24/7 from malefactors. And all he gets is a stone platform with which to lounge upon.

LauraBeth @mrbook I miss that library. The biggest factor in deciding on going on a date with my now hubby was when he pulled out his wallet in front of me and I saw he had a NYPL card. That was all it took 😀 it was brown and had a picture of the Lion on it. Of course I had my own but seeing that he had one sealed the deal 8y
[DELETED] 2232195534 I'll just say that my recent view of this lion included some guys running willy-nilly down the steps and away from the library. After seeing the new Ghostbusters movie, we had to revisit the original. Can't beat some of those lines! So, are you the Keymaster or the Gatekeeper?? 👻👻 8y

AmyWrites I did! It was lovely! Lots of New Yorkers calling out congratulations to us as we walked through the terminal (we were just in a dress and a suit, but I carried a little bouquet) and one little girl even ran up and hugged me during photographs. 😍 8y

Susanita I had a picnic by the lion with a friend of mine many moons ago. It was my first taste of sun dried tomatoes, which were a rare novelty at the time, to give you an idea of just how long ago. 🤓 8y
Lidia I just have to read it now! I visited NY last year and NYPL was my favorite place. I have to go back there one day 8y
heikemarie One of my favorite memories is taking a crew of fifth graders to the NYPL - we all took a pic with the lions, then silently filed in, found seats, and read. It was glorious. 8y
MrBook @Susanita @Lidia @inwhichHeikereadsharder Sounds like you all have fond memories of the spot 😊👍🏻. Here's an unfortunate miscellaneous fact: the NYPL system has around 95 branches, of which only 5--yep, only FIVE--are open on Sundays, of which 3 of those don't open until the afternoon! 8y
