That. ENDING. 😮 I'll admit, I wasn't totally feeling it for a good portion. Perhaps it's recent American history, or just American history as a whole, or my distance from the Cold War, but my main thought for much of the book was 'it's downright bizarre to see the binary thinking of if Superman were raised in the Soviet Union he would have turned into a despot and of course that would never happen in the U.S.' 1/?

What if Kal-El had landed in the Soviet Union and not the USA? A simple yet brilliant premise executed in almost flawless fashion. Brief, only three issues each covering an era roughly a decade apart, chronicles SUPERMAN as avatar of Russian exceptionalism, while Luthor opposes him as an American patriot. No easy morality, this story deftly balances many shades of grey, expertly rendered. Highly recommended!

This 3 comic miniseries raises the question of what Superman would be like if he landed in Russia instead of the USA. He's already an adult working along with Stalin when we start the narrative & this book adds in the usual players in the Superman mythos - Jimmy Olsen, Lex Luthor, Lois Lane, & Wonder Woman - and a few historical figures. However, this feels too short. We get .001% of his childhood, the paths of historical figures differs, ⬇️

🤨 Not sure how I feel about this one. I'm 1/3 through this graphic novel and it's different than I expected. My boyfriend picked it for me to read and oh boy! There's a movie to watch, too! 🙄

I've never been a big Superman fan, but this story is one of the exceptions. Mark Millar's cold war masterpiece is probably my favorite Superman story. What would have happened if Kal-El's pod crashed in the USSR instead of Kansas? What steps would the USA have taken to counter the sudden superiority of Soviet power? Read this beauty and find out.

Re-read. I love this book so much! It's my favourite Superman from after 1965. Love it!

Millar sets the comic up really well, using an interesting premise. The pacing has that Marvel/DC issue where it jumps around everywhere and spends no time developing anything. The story beats are hit fast and hard, with no time given to savor it. Maybe that's a style that people like, but it's not my thing. The characters are boring, but I'm beginning to wonder if Superman & Wonder Woman are just boring characters by their nature

Was able to read this all in one sitting. It flows really well. The comic is divided up into 3 sections: superman' origins, his adult life and the ending which I must say is really the best part. So, what makes this so different? Well, Supes landed in Communist Soviet Union era under Stalin instead of in American Kansas. Interesting concept and I enjoyed it over all. Batman was completely different than usual. Worth a read if you like Superman
