Well Met | Jen DeLuca

Our September read for #LittensLoveRomance has been selected and we‘re going to the fairgrounds. Has anyone ever been to a renaissance fair? I‘ve always wanted to go but there aren‘t any good ones in my area that I know of. But they sound like a lot of fun and a great setting for our next book. As we get deeper into the series we‘re getting to know and love these characters- including her fun cast of side characters. #IDLR #InDeathLongReadalong Book 15 Ch.16-22/review: Eve faces a lot of ethical and emotional questions in this book. She feels disillusioned with people who she thought were working with her on one side of the law. But when the justice system fails, is it right to take the law into your own hands? What if in doing so, you hurt people who get in the way? Eve faces threats to members of her own team - Trueheart, Mcnab, and Peabody. ⬇️

StayCurious So things are even more close to home. She butts heads with Roarke (as per usual), and climbs up the bureaucratic ladder where scandal awaits at the very top. This was an interesting case and an emotional book that once again brought us closer to our core group. 3d

LiseWorks Same here. Eve is very much a go by the book kind of cop but she does ask Roarke to break the law when she feels she has no choice. A pregnant Mavis will be interesting in future books. 3d

TheAromaofBooks There were some interesting ethical questions in this one. While I did agree that no group of people should just be allowed to run around essentially lynching people, there is always that nagging question of what you do when the system fails - people who were in fact guilty but who got off anyway and are free to continue hurting others. It was hard to 100% disagree with Purity, even while recognizing that their methods were wrong. 3d

Ddzmini This was a great way to present how a group or organization can influence the public in agreeing with their perception of how to conduct executions of individuals that don‘t live up to their expectations or break laws … are they right or wrong… what happens when you are caught committing a crime they fell is against their beliefs… even if it‘s a simple crime like a financial crime… what then 2d

Ddzmini What if the crime is just not going along with the groups perceived ethical standards… that‘s why this was such a great read. 2d

The Assassin's Blade | Sarah J. Maas

#LittensLoveSJM The Assassin and the Pirate Lord: What a wild swashbuckling ride this was! We get to see 16-year-old Celaena, brash and reckless, sent with Sam on a mission by Arobynn. They are supposed to make a deal with Rolfe, the Pirate Lord, but Arobynn wasn‘t completely forthcoming in the reason for their mission. We see elements of Arobynn‘s corruption and Celaena starts to lose trust in her Master. She also grows closer to her rival Sam⬇️

StayCurious We see that despite being assassins, Sam and Celaena have morals and care for people. We see their history and the bond that will soon grow between the characters (I‘m already getting the tissues handy). Can‘t wait to read more from Celaena‘s early days. 4d

LiseWorks I found her reckless and not trusting in Sam. He almost died here. I'm not sure her plans are in the best interest of her friends and allies. And because we know about his future, it was a nail bitter. 4d

#LittensLoveRomance Ch. 25-26/review: in a whirlwind couple of chapters Phoebe musters up her courage and tells Ren how she feels, only to cut and run in the morning. WTF Pheebs? Way not cool. At least everyone calls her out on it, including Ren, and they establish that there aren‘t so many obstacles standing between them as she keeps insisting upon. I was a bit annoyed at Pheobe towards the end. ⬇️

StayCurious She takes one step forward and 17 back. But she came around eventually. Thanks in big part to Myrna. Myrna was the best part of this book - what a cool character! I‘d love to read her memoirs. Maybe Pheobe will help her write them. Overall I enjoyed this light romance and I‘d love to read Suzanne‘s story next - though not sure the author has that planned. 5d

peanutnine Definitely Myrna was my favorite! And the ending was a whirlwind - if Phoebe had just talked to anyone about the issue she would have seen it wasn't that difficult 🙄 I did enjoy the callback to the beginning about only going to LAX for someone you love, it was a cute way for Ren to show his true feelings 5d

#LittensLoveRomance Ch.23-24: Anybody watching the scene in the garden is wincing right now. I can understand why Ren is upset. He thinks Pheobe was toying with him when he has real feelings for her. She‘s got some explaining to do. At least Bel stepped aside without drama. Although that would have made for some entertainment at the party. Do we think Myrna was who bought Ren‘s grandpa‘s house? How can she have any money left after that party?

I‘m looking forward to seeing it all happen at this party. Bring on the drama! Already Pheobe is contacted by her ex‘s fiancée. Poor thing- hope she doesn‘t marry him.

She‘s going through her own thing and still very much wants to take care of Pheobe - I mean she brings her to Disney! I love that they are closer now and being honest. Pheobe just needs to admit to what she‘s feeling for Ren. I think everything will come out at the big party. Maybe that‘s Myrna‘s plan.

#LittensLoveRomance Ch 17-18: ahh, the ol‘ kiss cam. Bringing people together (and tearing them apart to Coldplay tunes). I‘m sure Bel saw the Kiss and that is why she is MIA now. Or she read the letter and saw that Pheobe put Ren‘s name in a heart or something. I‘m glad Suzanne clued in right away to what her sister was feeling. Everyone needs a big sister who can cut through the BS. Now Myrna wants to meet Ren. Let‘s see what her take will be.

#IDLR #InDeathLongReadalong Book:15 Ch. 11-15: That Chang is a weasel. Why do I feel as though he is part of Purity? He wants to do all those shows which would give his cause plenty of airtime. And he‘s such a pain in the butt I want him to be guilty. I don‘t think the deputy mayor is part of it - but boy will she be ticked if I‘m right. ⬇️

StayCurious It‘s funny that Eve and Roarke are so terrified of being parents but yet they kinda act as such for Jamie and the rest of their motley crew. They take care of their family. I laughed at Eves reaction to Mavis‘ news. She‘s funny. 1w

Ddzmini I really enjoy watching this unfold and Eve and Mavis are so cute love their relationship especially with Mavis prego and excited, while Eves skepticism towards that excitement is hilarious I loved these characters for so many reasons 1w

#LittensLoveRomance Ch.15-16: where is my cranky rich person willing to dress me up for a party? Some people have all the luck 😑 but Pheobe does deserve to have some Cinderella fun for a night. I‘m looking forward to Myrna‘s party. I‘m sure her step children will have a conniption over how much she‘s spending but I say good for her. There‘s bound to be a show down. Bring it on.

#LittensLoveRomance Ch.13-14: I‘m not sure what Bel was up to - faking an injury so she wouldn‘t have to hike. You‘d think she‘d want to spend time with Ren. This of course allows Pheobe and Ren to grow even closer, for Ren to get a bit confused. Especially when they return to the car and Bel starts acting like a spoiled brat. Not sure what Bel was thinking the outcome of this outing would be. ⬇️

vonnie862 Oh my gosh! I'm going to vent/laugh a little bit: I've done the Switzer Falls hike and it's always busy. The comment that Ren made about Southern Californian people not caring about hiking is so not true!!! We are a hiking community and all trails, especially short trails with waterfalls, are busy in the Los Angeles area. Just trying to find parking to these trails can be chaotic. ⬇️ 2w

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 3 ch.61-end/review: well, that‘s how you ramp up a book and get the readers excited for the next book. I felt like it was Boom Boom Boom - each of our characters had smth life altering happening in these final chapters. I‘d like to make special mention of Chaol finally choosing a side and then giving up his name and identity, just as Aelin acknowledges who she really is. That wasn‘t lost on us,SJM. ⬇️

StayCurious Did anyone else feel as though they were reading a different book when it came to the witch chapters? Funnily enough those were my favourite chapters and the most interesting. I can‘t wait to see what Manon gets up to in the next books. There‘s a lot to be done by the others: free Aedion, find the third wyrdkey, face Celaena‘s old master, free Dorian (who now may be inhabited by the Valg)…lots to do. ⬇️ 2w

BarkingMadRead I‘m in for the next one! I loved the Manon chapters, they were very different but in the very best way 2w

mcctrish I will join you - I got the wrong book from the library 😱 and I agree on Manon and her witch pals feeling like a different book. The Assassin‘s Blade might give me some trouble, all forms of it have long wait times at multiple libraries (edited) 2w

#LittensLoveRomance Ch.11-12: oh boy, setting up the garden for Ren and Bel‘s date…getting the food, the decorations…why Pheobe? And then torturing herself by watching from the weeds so to speak - I was wincing the whole time. And Bel - boy oh boy, she‘s not the greatest under pressure! By the way - Bel is not in love with Ren, she‘s in lust. Here‘s hoping they won‘t have physical chemistry and she‘ll gracefully move on to someone else. ⬇️

StayCurious As for Myrna, it‘s sad that she‘ll have to leave her house. Her step children are just waiting to get their claws into it. How depressing. Do we think throwing a party is a good idea? Maybe Pheobe will decorate haha. (edited) 2w

OriginalCyn620 I would kinda love to see Myrna in a party situation! I felt so bad for Phoebe not only setting up the backyard, but then having to watch the date and tell Bel what to say…that‘s so not good. Phoebe is way nicer than I am because there‘s no way I would‘ve done that! 2w

#LittensLoveRomance Ch.9-10: So sorry for missing last night‘s post! Life got in the way and I fell behind. And it was a cool chapter too, with Pheobe meeting an honest to goodness once upon a time Hollywood star. I‘d say she should introduce her to Bel but I think Myrna would find Bel a bit silly. Myrna has a sad story and I think she needs a friend just like Pheobe does. ⬇️

StayCurious As for the love letter business - the number of ways this will end poorly is astronomical. 2w

#LittensLoveRomance Ch.7-8: poor Phoebe - it sounds as though her last relationship was toxic and bad for her. But those ones are the hardest to get over I think. They damage a bit of you that‘s hard to put back together. Bel shouldn‘t have brought it up so casually. She‘s a wee bit annoying imo. But I suppose she doesn‘t know how bad Pheobe feels about her ex so it‘s not completely her fault.

mcctrish Bel is complicated, I‘m glad she stood up for them when the feral children almost drowned them and she‘s juggling a lot of jobs to break even. But she‘s exhausting to be around! Suzanne should not have spread Phoebe‘s relationship tale ( especially without the caveat of never speaking of it out loud ) 2w

willaful Thomas was a classic abuser, using her bereaved state to cut her off from everyone. I'm guessing the drama around the wedding was Phoebe tried to warn the new bride. Shame it probably didn't work. :-( 2w

Some of that has to do with Rowan and the bond that has built - too bad he is enslaved to Maeve. She could command him to kill Celaena and he‘d have no choice. That‘s dangerous. And Maeve will not want such a powerhouse as a potential rival. I sense bad things in the future with Maeve. ⬇️

StayCurious It‘s too bad Chaol and Dorian are still at such odds. But I think they are at such odds and have such different beliefs - they are no longer the children they once were. Seeing just some of the people Celaena has lost - and what she went through as a girl - it shows how strong she really is. I‘d be in a mental institution - hands down. And once we get more Sam scenes in the prequel novellas - I‘m going to be gutted. ⬇️

Seems like the perfect place to rest up for a bit while her sister is away.

Littlewolf1 I forgot how heartbreaking the series was, and again I‘m reminded why I had to read other books during the series. It absolutely wrecks my soul to think about how many people were just massacred, and how devastated the people left behind must feel. I know it‘s fiction but I feel this. And it also reminds me that despite being fiction, things like this happen when people seek power and control. It‘s not just in stories. 3w

Littlewolf1 I‘m just gonna say we all get bonus points for not reading the next chapter. First, we have Manon and Abraxos in the air, but it stops there. We don‘t know the response to the other witches, of the 13 of her grandmother. And then, we have Aeline (Celaena) about to get attacked and Rowan nowhere to be found. If Maas wants me invested in the Rowan pairing, it will have to be because of his hurt from his past, the guilt of his wife and unborn child dying. Chaol really didn't have that, did he? Just a hateful father. Don't get me wrong, it's awful to endure the abuse, but R and C/A hold tremendous guilt from their actions. 3w

She even told him about Sam. Rowan is also learning that Maeve may not be that honest about certain things. She has kept things from him. And Celaena is growing to hate Maeve the more she learns about her. ⬇️

StayCurious Meanwhile, I liked that Aedion spoke so bluntly to Chaol and accused him of not picking a side. He will have to face some hard truths about himself and his relationships with Dorian and Celaena. 3w

Littlewolf1 I am really enjoying the chemistry between Rowan and Celaena during these chapters. I think it‘s good that he is starting to see how broken she truly is and being a little bit more respectful. However, I‘m glad he called her out on her fear of her own power. The fact that she thought she burned out during the celebration, gave her help which he smashed by letting her know that she did not burn out, but rather allow her magic to take control. 3w

Also pretty sure the foul taste/smell is dark magic set to control the witches. Good thing Manon is smart to notice.

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 3 Ch.34-36: Rowan and Celaena are making progress with each other. Turns out Rowan has lost his mate - which is the worst thing that can happen to Fae I think. No wonder he‘s so hard. Celaena has started to feel a connection to him in that they‘ve both suffered loss and need to crawl their way out of the abyss. Perhaps they can do it together. What he felt for his mate I think Celaena felt for Sam and even Nehemia. ⬇️

StayCurious Aedion and Chaol are closer to discovering how the King got rid of magic. The king must be a keen study to have figured out how to do that. Did he have help? Or did he just control those around him? 3w

I feel like he picked his job over his family. While sure he was needed, could he have ensured that his wife was safe with relatives, friends, or something before he left? I am glad that Celeana and him had this sort of bonding moment, but I'm still not okay with how he has been treating her. 3w

Just like in the book, this heatwave has me battling headaches…luckily I haven‘t gone crazy yet 😅 Man, what a start to this book - first, poor Trueheart takes out a raging drug dealer but we find out something more is going on - Eve hands over the drug dealer‘s computer to EDD and then a detective goes batty and there‘s a hostage situation. ⬇️

StayCurious Something affected both the dealer and the detective and the computer is the only thing linking the two. Could a computer virus translate to real life? It‘s not that far fetched (remember the case with the suicides that were brought on by a computer program?) Now Eve has to get to the bottom of things - to clear Trueheart, to vindicate the EDD detective who was actually a victim, and to stop anyone else from getting infected. 3w

I‘m curious if this is the first time she‘s done that or if she was always Fae as a child. Her memories of her parents and Aedion make me sad but they are good to read because they provide important background. Chaol and Aedion discover there‘s a group of Royal soldiers- surprise surprise, Chaol knows nothing⬇️

There is a Duke (I assume Perrington) with two prisoners (Kaltain and Roland -again, an assumption) Manon thinks their smell is alien. Maybe, only a few are in on the king's plans (Perrington and the champion), and others are drugged by the onyx???? that is in the rings.. All assumptions. But, I am worried about Roland and Kaltain. I want K to be part of the feminist fighters. 3w

The duke and king wanted that power on their side. But Kaltain wasn‘t strong enough to withstand the effects of the dark magic and the duke said to the king he needed to lay off a bit because she was getting headaches and going a bit batty. #LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 3 Ch.25-27: Not sure why we are rooting so much for the witches when they are training to fight the King‘s enemies, but I‘m here for them. Their chapters are interesting! Manon is outfitting Abraxos to be a champion, with iron fangs and spikes on his tail. What I find interesting is Dorian uses iron to dampen his magic because iron is immune to magic. And yet the iron teeth covens are well…outfitted with iron. ⬇️

StayCurious And had magic before it disappeared. Like I said - Interesting. I worry about Sorscha. I don‘t think she‘s completely keeping Dorian‘s secret. But maybe I‘m wrong. And as for the creepy killer Rowan and Celaena are tracking, was he the King‘s assassin and did he have something to do with her parents‘ deaths? 4w

Then we got to see a glimpse of Celaena‘s powers. ⬇️

StayCurious Rowan saved her life so maybe he‘s not all bad though I think him having a blood oath to Maeve may be troublesome in future. Manon got her wyvern and not how we were expecting it at all. I think she‘s great and I always root for the little guy. Let‘s watch Abraxos prove himself. ⬇️ 4w

StayCurious These witches remind me of Amazons btw. Man are they tough on each other. And finally, Dorian gets dragged into the loop and has new reasons to be angry at Chaol. What will he do with all this information? He‘s in such a tough spot. 4w

Littlewolf1 Celeana having to relive her trauma is harsh. I wouldn‘t wish that on anybody. She‘s grieving, she feels alone and she‘s been hiding herself for so long that she can‘t trust herself. Rowan is it much help, but I don‘t think he knows how to respond to the situation either. I didn‘t post on the last two day chapters, so I just wanna add that I too really enjoy the chapters with the witches Manon has always been my favorite character. 1mo

What she does with them is a mystery. Maeve will swallow Celaena up once she sees what she can do with her gifts. We also find ourselves back with the witches - all together now. Their numbers have dwindled recently and their magic is limited. ⬇️

StayCurious Will they be able to control these wyvern creatures for the king? I wouldn‘t trust his majesty at all. Hopefully Manon is smart enough to keep an eye out. 1mo

KadaGul @LiseWorks My sweet friend, I have a pile going for #LitsyLove, and it's been going for a couple of months. I love that I have a few regular people that I write to; it's so refreshing and fun. I do the cards and swaps as a way of decompressing from work. I'm finally coming to terms with the workload being more, not less, so let the fall season start. I'll have a month or two ✌️ to settle down. 1mo

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 3 Ch.4-6: We meet a couple more new characters in the scary and badass Manon, and the shy healer Sorscha. We also get a look at how Aedion is when it‘s just him and Dorian (he‘s kind of a d*ck). Chaol is keeping his distance from Dorian for his own good- but Dorian feels a bit betrayed and alone. I know it‘s dangerous but I feel like these two need to find a way to talk and work together. ⬇️

StayCurious The king is up to his usual dark tricks so they need to stand together. Celaena is in fairie territory and they seem to know who she really is. It‘s safe to assume Rowan does as well. 1mo

Roary47 I like that Dorian acknowledged Sorcha as the one that keeps healing him and his friends. I agree the witch was intense. So my thought is Celeana killed a witch not too long ago. Does a witch need to be in the kings employ. Did I miss that explanation while I‘m trying to catch up? 4w

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 3: Ch.1-3: We get right into things with a very downtrodden Celaena in Wendlyn. I think being alone without her friends is dangerous for her. She wallows too much. We meet an interesting new character in the Fae Rowan who is set to take her - probably to his Queen. Good. Make her snap out of her grief. ⬇️

StayCurious Then we catch up with a very stressed out Chaol and Dorian and Celaena‘s cousin, who is also part of the King‘s black ring club. If he is truly as bad as he seems, he has betrayed everything his family stood for. 1mo

Littlewolf1 Oh man, Celaena is hurting real bad. You can almost feel how lost she is as she numbs her pain and sadness. @mcctrish the rings almost remind me of the rings of power from Lord of the rings. They‘re given as a gift and it almost feels like people look at them as a symbol of their status and power. A gift that the king has bestowed upon them. Who really pays too much attention to a status symbol. 1mo

Read4life Those rings are definitely bad news. Celaena is in a bad way. Hopefully she gets it together before she does something reckless with no one having her back. 1mo

#IDLR #InDeathLongReadalong Book 14 Ch.16-end and review: these last chapters chasing Julianna were a fast paced ride with Eve so close but still a step behind. Julianna is cunning and clever and lucky as well. But she can‘t resist going after what is most important to Eve: Roarke. In this at least Eve is prepared and the two foes finally get their show off and Eve finally gets Julianna back in a cage where she belongs. I liked this instalment ⬇️

StayCurious I liked seeing Peabody‘s parents and seeing her grow into her own by closing her own case. I liked that she was finally in a good place with McNab. I liked seeing Eve and Roarke celebrating 1 year. I‘m looking forward to seeing more for our characters. 1mo

Ddzmini I really enjoyed read a book with strong characters not only the main but the suspect as well.. yes Eve solved this and Roarke didn‘t die but the journey for the beginning was interesting with all the side stories, like Peabody and her family. Really liked this one and can‘t wait to start the next book 1mo

LiseWorks I loved how we got to see Peabody and family more. And her solving a case. The Dallas chapters were tough. But Eve came through with Roarke by her side. The 1st anniversary was cool. 1mo

TheAromaofBooks This may have been my favorite out of the series so far. Julianna was a fabulous villain, and I adored meeting Peabody's parents. I also loved McNabb being so supportive of Peabody while she was breaking her first case. Roarke and Eve having their romantic 1st anniversary was super sweet, too. Super fun read!! 1mo

#LittensLoveRomance Ch.31-end /review: Wow, what a good ending! I wonder why the lady blue blood voted yes to save Blade? She has her reasons for being gracious. I look forward to reading more from this series for sure. The author did a great job of creating side characters I want to follow up on. Although I‘d say this was Steampunk-lite, it was an interesting world that the author created with a unique take on vampires I haven‘t read before ⬇️

StayCurious The romance was very satisfying and I enjoyed the chemistry between the characters. The action scenes were excellent. I do admit to being confused at the beginning about a few things but once you get into the story, it works itself out and I think would be easier in subsequent books as well. 1mo
