Wickedly good book about a mobster gone into hiding and the ex-FBI agent who is doggedly hunting him down. With bits of dry wit and action to boot, this book is a great one. Book 1 in a 3 part series so far. 4⭐️

26/150 I listened to the audiobook version of The Low Desert last year and really enjoyed it, so I thought I should go back and read Goldberg's previous gangster novels. They're darkly humorous, definitely not glamorizing the mafia, hit men or the life of crime. It can be a little gory at times, but never used to simply gross out the reader. Now on to the next book in the series, Gangster Nation. 5 💰💰💰💰💰
Mafia hitman Sal Cupertino has a rare error of judgement and kills some FBI agents. Oops. His guys smuggle him to Vegas, and after a whole bunch of plastic surgery, Sal becomes Rabbi David Cohen. This premise is absurd AF, but it was exceptionally engaging and entertaining. Loved it and can't wait to read Gangster Nation, the next in this...series? Trilogy? However many there are, I'm there for them.
I try to squeeze in a few minutes of reading every morning, but I‘m not always able to. My reading time has diminished since I started working at the library. Irony.
Today‘s #BoundTogetherJune prompt is #Vacation!
This was taken on a trip to Las Vegas for a friend‘s wedding Spring Break 2018. We only live 5 hours away so we were burned out on Vegas and hadn‘t been there in 10 years. We had so much fun though we decided it could go back on the list. Taken from our room in Treasure Island, or as the yougins call it now, T.I. I wish we could go back this weekend!
Awesome book btw! I need to read the sequel!
I never thought I would read a book about the mob, but the author told me Gangsterland was going to be the best book I‘ve ever read so I had to give it a try.
Sal is a mob hit man hiding out in Las Vegas as a Jewish rabbi. This unique idea combined with engaging story telling kept me turning pages in all of my spare moments to the very end. I look forward to reading the other 2 books in the trilogy. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ not the “best book ever” but v.g.!
Sal Cupertine is a Chicago mafia hit man who becomes Rabbi David Cohen in Las Vegas. Is he a good bad guy or a bad good guy? Still don't know after an action packed 376 pages, but it looks like there will be a sequel.
I picked this after listening to Tod on Literary Disco which is one of the better book podcasts available. It has a satisfyingly dark heart with a Talmudic twist that you don't find in many crime novels about hit men and the Mafia. Rabbi David Cohen is definitely one of the more unexpected anti-heroes in modern noir.
Flown in to London for the weekend and I finished my book on the plane.
Fortunately, I planned ahead and had a few books delivered to my Mum's waiting for me.
