pickThere‘s a lot of little taught history packed in this middle grade novel. Set in 1932, Cal and his dad are riding the rails as hobos after losing their home. When Cal‘s father goes to DC with other WWI vets as part of the Bonus Army, he leaves Cal behind at an Indian School in Oklahoma. Highly recommended.

I was looking up pics of median strips & divided roads (for the Brit term #CentralReservation ) & this book popped up. I haven‘t read it but it is set in 1932 where a 12-year-old boy finds out he is part Creek Indian & is sent by his father to a government boarding school for Native Americans when his father joins the march on Washington DC for veterans‘ benefits. There he learns about his heritage & history. Seemed fitting. 💙
