Rohinton Mistry is easily one of my favourite writers. This book only reiterated why. It‘s an emotional, beautifully constructed family drama with just heart wrenching moments throughout.

#ConflictedWorlds Day 14 Conflicted person Vs #Siblings
Matters are taken to extremes so the care of an elderly family member is forcibly and deceitfully passed from one sibling to another.
One of my favourite authors.

I posted a pic of my mom‘s grad picture for her 90th b-day a few days ago. My sister had obtained the picture from the school. The school contacted her a few days later—my grandmother, my mom‘s mom, had graduated from the same school 21 years before my mom, and they sent along my grandmother‘s picture! My grandmother was also yearbook editor, so they sent pictures of that too.

I own this book but haven‘t read it yet. I have read another book by him and enjoyed it very much - A Fine Balance. Both of these books are on the 1001 books to read before you die.
A novel about Bombay through the story of one family undergoing events that are both dramatic and ordinary. It‘s about regrets, and loyalty, and family, and obligation, and resentments. A good book, although I enjoyed Mistry‘s "A Fine Balance" better.
When I read Family Matters for the first time, I didn't realize that it would become a favourite. I read it when I was under a lot of emotional stress and this book became my anchor. It has one of the best grandfather-grandson relationships that I've come across in a book.

A VERY enthusiastic pick for this one. Mistry is a wonderful storyteller - plenty of sadness and misery, but also hope and beauty. #1001books
Enjoyed the culture shock of being plunged into this Parsi Zoroastrian family and its bitter-sweet domestic dramas. This is both a tender and unflinchingly account of the indignities of old age as well as an exploration of Bombay and it‘s many contradictions.
Two events in the final quarter knocked me out of my reading orbit and I feel like the author took a slightly different direction at this point than I had wanted to go.
Otherwise great.
Definitely recommend. A delightful and disturbing family saga that details the frailty of each character while also illuminating strength. At times humorous yet gut wrenching, we watch this family face challenges and enjoy triumph, mirroring the developing city of Mumbai (recently Bombay). Many relationships are explored, including that between spouses, siblings, and parent/child. As good as Mistry's previous novel: A Fine Balance.
Next up...a novel by the author of A Fine Balance (while her highness naps). Looks like a juicy family drama.

I find Mistry such a wonderful writer. All his sentences are full of love and meaning without overdoing it. This is the story of a family, taking care of their grandfather who comes to live with them in their small Bombay flat. This has a big effect on all of them, especially on the father, who feels guilty about not being able to feed his family properly and starts looking for ways to earn more. #1001books #booker #manbooker
