These Japanese detective series are real comfort reads to me. So different from American or English ones; lots of dialogue and scenery and culture, little violence etc. This book too was very clever and I really enjoyed it.

This one had me a little tiny bit teary—Higashino does an excellent job of getting you invested in the lives, emotions, motivations (you name it) of his characters & because he does, as the story unfolds & secrets are revealed, it‘s impossible not to care. The truth in the is one hits hard…in the best way. Pacing is deliberate, it‘s a character study more than a murder mystery. If you want lots of action, this isn‘t the book but it‘s a great read.

4 Stars • "A Midsummer's Equation" by Keigo Higashino, the third book in the Detective Galileo series, revolves around physicist Manabu Yukawa, known as "Detective Galileo," who assists in solving a complex murder case. The story begins with the discovery of a body in a locked room, with the only apparent suspect having a solid alibi. ⬇️

I would have liked a lot more active Detective Galileo parts. The book was so slow and anytime we were dealing with other characters, I just couldn't get in to it. I did like the boy, Kyohei, even if he was not exactly a believable character. He paired well with the detective.i also loved the setting and the descriptions of the ocean, but it was pretty eh, overall

Ready for Book battle! Finally getting to my TBR and looking forward to starting this one.

Definitely a slow burn, even for Higashino who is loveably long winded. This was my second attempt to get through this one, and I was mostly motivated to finish because book 4 in the series comes out in December. Five years is a long time to wait! I recommend reading until the end because everything, everything comes together on the last page. Book 4 tagged ⬇️. #hoopla #japan

After LOVING The Devotion of Suspect X and feeling “meh” about Salvation of a Saint, I am back in love with Detective Galileo. A bit slow to start, but this mystery has everything: a murder that looks like an accident, family secrets, a sleepy seaside tourist town, love, and loss. I particularly loved the wholesome relationship between Yukawa and Kyohei, and was very touched by the ending. Will definitely read more from this author. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Enjoying this so far. Saw the movie adaptation before but I already forgot who's the culprit so this still feel fresh (but familiar) to me.

An ok book for me. Too many plotlines & invstgations. Evrything did cm 2gthr in the end but it was not half as satisfactory/enjoyable as the other bks. I did like Yukawa & kyohei's mentor mentee kind of rltnship. But Yukawa's genius & deciphering skills were not quite on display as expected in a series named after him. The equation is not accurate after all? Good read just not the best.

This is the 3rd book in the ‘Detective Galileo‘ series, where physicist & amateur sleuth Yukawa works with his Tokyo Police Detective friend to solve crimes. An engaging standalone story, the mystery unravels slowly, characters are realistic, and has an interesting twist. I‘m not so agreeable that he‘s dubbed ‘the Japanese Larsson‘ as it‘s not as dark; perhaps this has a different vibe compared to the first two books. Satisfying ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

Update : 3.5/5 stars .. definitely recommended for Higashino fans..but don't start with this one if you've not read him before
