Kind of too depressing to read during a pandemic...
A retelling of Snow White that focuses on race and vanity.
A retelling of Snow White that focuses on race and vanity.
I don't really know how to feel about this book...it's very short and easy to read, but I don't understand why it won a Booker Prize back in 1984. It's just "okay" for me and far from "amazing."
After more than 10 years and two failed attempts, I finally finished this novel! It was worth the struggle to read through all the philosophical and theological discussions despite the slightly disappointing ending.
"I am as I am and so I will be
But how that I am, none knoweth truly
Be it evil, be it well, be I bound, be I free,
I am as I am and so I will be...
But how that is I leave to you
Judge as ye list, false or true
Ye know no more than afore ye knew
Yet I am as I am, whatever ensue."
The tragic end to the Thomas Cromwell trilogy, but witty, funny, and entertaining til the last page.
One week and 140 pages later, I'm finally on....Chapter 3 😑 I want more time to read!
From the author of The Vegetarian, Human Acts tells the story of the 1980 Gwangju Uprising in S. Korea from the point of view of different individuals involved as well as the inhumane suffering they experienced at the hands of the military. Worth a read despite its heavy theme (which won't help you much these days) and more socially significant and relatable than The Vegetarian.
I love this cover (even though it's the movie version)!
Was in a reading slump, so I decided to read this...it didn't actually get me out of it though 😔
Am I the only one who thinks that this is an entertaining, funny, and overall wonderful book? I can't believe it took me this long before reading it.
Now for some good old-fashioned romance and adventure!
Not the kind of book I would normally read, but it's for a book club, so I'll give it a try...
Accidentally read the second book of a series...oh well....
It was an easy and entertaining read but nothing very remarkable....
Bumping this up my TBR list in honor of the newest Nobel Laureate.
Nothing like a book about books get you in the mood to read....
Kind of in a reading slump...hope this boom gets me out of it.
Got my book order! Happy New Year to me!!
After a long dry reading spell, this is the book I happened to choose! Fortunately, it's pretty interesting.
I'm looking to join a cool online book club for book recs and also to discuss books...any ideas and suggestions? Thanks in advance!
I wanted to read this after learning that it has a Netflix adaptation. I didn't realize it was an epistolary novel until I started reading. I'm not too fond of epistolary novels, and this one is a bit bland, so I don't know if I'm gonna see it through...
A bit bland until you get to the sinister and scandalous ending!
Not as tragic as Tess of the D'Urbervilles but tragic in its own right.
Saw this book lying around the house and thought...why not...?
Reading The Moonstone because...why not??
I made a mistake if reading the summary at the back of the book and now I want to postpone the tragic (?) inevitable outcome. Say it isn't so, Angel Clare...so seem like a nice guy!! #wanttoreaditbutdontwanttoreadit
This book wasn't as good or exciting as Annihilation and is still hella weird! Again, WTH is going on??
Hmmm...curiouser and curiouser.....
Hope this brings me out of my reading slump...
