This is a scary book, all true. An HBomb was dropped on #NC? Yes. It nearly detonated when a B52 broke up in mid air in 1961. In #Arkansas a missile caught fire due to a fuel leak from a dropped wrench in 1980. USAF wouldn't confirm a warhead even existed, but they couldn't find it after the fuel explosion. #PBS did a recent documentary based on this book and #audiobook. Chilling. #Safety? Illusion. #True #horror #military #history TowerReview.com

I hope you guys are ready for a slew of posts for today's #augustphotochallenge ! I love politics and history, particularly American history. My first entry is on one of the biggest political events ever - the invention of nuclear weapons. It's such a fascinating intersection of science and politics and a topic that remains terrifyingly relevant today. It's something we should all be aware of the responsibility required. #booksandpolitics

brendanmleonard And as a fun game, two of these books relate to other topics I'll be posting about today... 😉🤔😄 9y
Sydsavvy I don't know the answer to the game, but I love books and politics, too, and I love your enthusiasm here! Can't wait to see the others. 🤓 9y

Pickpick

A history of accidents and incidents which occurred with nuclear arms during the Cold War, combined with a overview of the development of these weapons and strategies which were developed for their use. One part of the story focuses on an incident at a Titan missile silo in Arkansas in the 80's.

Oblomov26 While the other analyses additional incidents which occurred around the world. Truly terrifying when you realize the how close we came to at best a major nuclear accident and worst world war 3. 9y
