Thanks to @Megabooks for posting about Kim Hooper - this was SO very good. What a debut! Based on this, I‘m determined now to read everything she‘s written. ♥️

My favorite this week was the tagged one. Kim Hooper is a great author (thanks for introducing me @Megabooks !) and I already found another one by her, about Japan!
I also made a start with the detective Kim Scott series, which is promising.
The Spinoza problem is a fascinating read about philosophy and anti semitism. Only the Danticat didn‘t meet my expectations, otherwise a great week.
You were right Meg, this is a great read and Kim Hooper a new favorite author. Thank you for sending me this book Jo!
Just after 9/11 Emily leaves NYC and starts over again in California where she raises her baby. Thirteen years later the past catches up when Emily is diagnosed with breast cancer. A very sad and utterly human read of not very perfect people - which I loved!
Why isn‘t everyone talking about Kim Hooper? She is fantastic! This is a second 5⭐️ book from her! She wrote a morally fraught woman with cancer, who is hiding things from her daughter. I liked that Emily wasn‘t a saint. I liked that there were no easy answers here.
Two timelines: 1. Emily is raising her daughter in LA and has just been diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer. 2. Emily is in a failing marriage and deserts her husband, who is ⬇️
Wow. Really enjoyed this. Could have used a better ending but it was still really good.
Thanks for the tags @Tanisha_A and @Tiffy_Reads !! 😘😘

I've heard almost no buzz about this, but I really enjoyed it! I love books that tell a before and after story, hinging on one central event. Emily/Connie made decisions that I wouldn't personally, but I totally understood her motivations and loved that the author presented a scenario where everyone and no one is the bad guy. Totally fascinating.
This is a hard book to rate especially because the concept feels original. A woman who marries young and after an intense affair, fakes her death after 9/11. All in all, this book is great and consuming. I have issues with her secondary characters that felt like stereotypes. And that ending! This is still worth reading. It really demonstrates how effin difficult life is and how maybe (just maybe) you would disappear too if you had the chance.
I'm not that far into this book yet, around ch.2. But oh boy do I love a book about a woman running away and creating a whole new life. I'm not sure what it is about that storyline that attracts me. The idea of someone continuing to live, but disappearing to others. I guess that's harder to do with social media and what not, but I find it fascinating.
Wow! This is a brave debut novel centered around a woman who makes some terrible choices before and after 9/11. It's a marvelous feat that I continued to like her and root for her. A lot of promise in his author.
This is a wonderful debut from a new author, highly recommend. A lot of people rated it low due to an unsympathetic main character, but I found her and her situation very human and the story compelling despite making choices I wouldn't. It's meant to make you think and it does. Add it to your list!
Guess I have to read fast, because these four came home with me today. Not enough hours in the day! 📖📚
Next up! My TBR pile almost never gets touched since I discovered the hold feature at the library. Picking up three more today 😎
I was enthralled at the end of this book. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. I'm pleading with Kim Hooper to write a sequel.
I recently read an ARC of this book and loved it! Definitely recommend!
