Allies | Alan Gratz
From Alan Gratz, the highly acclaimed, New York Times bestselling author of the blockbuster Refugee, comes a thrilling new multi-perspective novel, this time centered around D-Day. D-Day, June 6, 1944: the most expansive military endeavor in history. No less than world cooperation would bring down Hitler and the Axis powers. And so people -- and kids -- across the globe lent their part. From the young US soldiers in the boats to spies in the French countryside, the coordination of thousands came together. Alan Gratz, author of the New York Times bestselling Refugee, explores the necessity of teamwork and heroism in dismantling tyranny in this epic, yet personal, look at D-Day in time for the 75th anniversary of the operation.

Told in many voices -French, Jewish, American, English - this middle grade historical fiction is how I wished I‘d learned history. It gives a sense of the day without being terrifying. Kids who like action will enjoy this.

The latest novel from Gratz is a winner; highlighting through alternating POVs the roles of Canadians, British, Americans, and the French Resistance fighters in D-Day operations 75 years ago.

#3 This book was one of the best books i have read and it will get me into the war genre a lot more it was perfect because it switched from person to person from a medic to a solider to even a spy but they are all going against the germans in order to win the war, if you like war, fiction many things in this book make it one of my favorite books.

MissYaremcio Great review Shawn! I am glad you liked this book. Thank you for coming to talk to me about this assignment. 5y
Cfischbuch I love almost anything by this author. You should try his other titles. Don‘t forget to use capitalization and punctuation, it will make your reviews even more readable. 5y

This book was AMAZING, I loved the different P.O.V.‘s. The separate perspectives blew my mind. The emotion flowed just as well as the plot, and gave the book a feeling that I have not experienced in a book before. I usually do not like war books, but the way they made the entire book fall with in the 24 hours, made it such an action packed, page turner of a read. The only possible ‘bad part‘ of the book was that sometimes the book was confusing.

A fantastic book, it focuses on 4 main characters on the day before D-day, a spy, a medic, a paratrooper, and Dee a regular trooper. If you like books about wars/ WWII you will like this book. After reading this, I could tell that the author is very passionate about WWII with how much research he puts into his books

Cfischbuch Great review. 5y

Allies, by Alan Gratz is a HF story about where different people were during D-Day. It is a good book for older students to read that can tie in with a history lesson. I would use this book as a LC for the
students to get together and discuss.
https://www.nationalww2museum.org/students-teachers/educator-resources/classroom.... This website contains some valuable resources to be used in conjunction with the book.

jmartucci I would use ESOL strategy 6 and continually
monitor the student‘s comprehension. I would use UDL 7.1 and optimize individual choice so the students could pick something they are interested in. #ucflae3414su19

DrSpalding Your resource is fantastic! You are correct that this would be for intermediate if not middle school readers. This particular author has several titles that are getting a lot of attention! 5y
