Absolutely gorgeous YA, LGBTQ novel, but it's not an easy read. I was worried for a while that the mom was too passive, but it totally paid off. It's not dealing with easy issues and it doesn't try to sugarcoat anything. It is exceptionally well written.

I hate it when books deliberately leave out quotation marks. Come on, guys, they were invented for a reason.😒

Started reading while my daughter played in the water.

I'm not crying, you're crying. Ugh, I was NOT expecting this book to completely ruin me, but oh my god. There was the sweet love story, but then there's drama and angst. And even in the sweet romance bits there was a sense of foreboding. SO good!

Up next. I tend to read from my iBooks shelves first, but wow I have so many unread things in my nook and kindle apps, I'm going to make a concerted effort to read from those first for a little while. I picked this up on sale from Amazon.

It Looks Like This suffers from an impersonal, distant narrator and a rather generic plot. It had a lot of potential but never quite met my expectations. It was okay. But I had hoped for something a bit more engrossing.

I have heard this is quite sad, so I will build up to it.

Another purchase this weekend. I'm trying to broaden my knowledge in the lgbtq world of literature. Our middle schoolers need more. This one might be more high school, but I'm hoping to find more to add to my school library.

This was so much better than I expected. Heartbreaking. Full of deep emotions. Some people are complaining about his lack of quotation marks, but I found the stylization charming and fitting. It somehow set a very particular tone that I think was necessary. I read it in about 24 hours. I couldn't really put it down unless I was at work. And even then, I might have gone through 100 pages or so there...

I had guessed before starting this book that it would be yet another one where Tragic Things Happen to Queer Teens - long sigh - but you know what? It's also well-written, and the reality it depicts is still very true for many, so I can't say it isn't needed.
