The Leopard King
The Leopard King: Ars Numina, #1 | Ann Aguirre
17 posts | 14 read | 3 to read
Proud. Imperious. Impassioned. Until three years ago, those words applied to Dominic Asher, the leader of Ash Valley. His family has ruled the feline branch of the Animari for hundreds of years, guiding the pride through perilous times. Unspeakable loss drove him into seclusion, a feral beast nobody can tame. Now he's wrecked, a leopard king in exile, and he wants nothing more than to die. Fierce. Loyal. Determined. Fortunately for Dom, those words still apply to Pru Bristow, his dead mate's best friend. She's had her heart broken too, but she never quits. With the conclave approaching, alliances with the Pine Ridge pack and Burnt Amber clans on the verge of collapse, she's prepared to do whatever it takes to drag their leader back, before his second can start a war. At best theirs seems like a desperate alliance, but when their mate bond turns hot and fierce, there's no end to the questions and the doubts. Neither of them expects to fall in love. But sometimes people don't know what they're looking for until they find it.

Oh my. This book had been lingering on my ereader and I started it late yesterday, stayed up late reading, and finished it off this morning. Have already snapped up the next in the series. Multi-shifter world, with a crap ton of politics, but really enjoyed the look at pushing through grief and trying to make responsible choices, and yanno, the sex scenes weren't bad either.
Note: Brief depictions of self harm and suicidal ideation.

A wonderful addition to this urban fantasy #romantsy series. I loved the grumpy former monk turned warrior and the sunny singer! Cannot be read without reading the earlier books in the series.

SW-T I received my preorder and I‘m looking forward to reading this new entry in the series. 😊 5y
CoffeeK8 @SW-T it was great, I really enjoy this series 5y
SW-T I love Aguirre‘s books. I think the Sirantha Jax series is still my favorite, but I feel like she continually ups her writing game. And Strange Love was both heartwarming and fun to read. 5y
CoffeeK8 @SW-T this is the only series of hers I‘ve read so far. I want to read the others but I‘m waiting for right now. I want to really be able to sink into them (edited) 5y
nitalibrarian This one is sitting on my kindle waiting for me. I love this series. I agree with @SW-T Sirantha Jax is amazing. 5y

This was a pretty good book, but I had a disconnect with the main characters. The story started off in the middle for them so, when they got together and were feeling guilty about the past, I didn't really care. I think it was a good (but slow) start for the series. I am looking forward to reading about the other characters now that I have a base to go off of. (FYI, this does have some sex scenes, so not kid friendly. Oh, and no Alpha male.)

Terrific world building, a wonderful romance and really strong heroine, makes for terrific #romantsy. 💕

MarriedtoMrT Ooooh. I‘m always on the lookout for good shifter or shifter-esque books. They‘re my catnip. 😺😬 6y
CoffeeK8 @MarriedtoMrT me too! I hope you enjoy these! 6y

I did not fall in love with this book and I can‘t work out why. There‘s some good world-building, political shenanigans, consequences coming home to roost and romance. And still I feel a bit meh about it all. I might read the next in the series but it‘s not on my “must have” list...
3/5

“Some loves are like a fire, and they burn from the first spark.” By her knowing eyes, she understood what he meant without additional context. “Our love, it‘s a tree, and you‘ve been watering it for years. Dalena is and always will be my first love. But you, Pru… fate willing, you will be my last.”

- The Demon Prince by Ann Aguirre (currently not in the Litsy database)

I'm finding Sheyla and Alastor's relationship to be very cute.

Usually I rate Ann Aguirre novels as five out of five stars. Unfortunately for authors when I have such expectations, I tend to be harsh on anything less
This was a sexy, paranormal romance. Might even be considered erotica. But if you have never read Aguirre, I would recommend Perdition or Blue Diablo first.

That's me! I was a beta reader for this so a slight bias lol but I really enjoyed the old school PNR feel - good world building, romance, characters. Nice start to a series and return to romance by Aguirre.
