Somethingtofoodabout: Exploring Creativity With Innovative Chefs | Ben Greenman, Questlove
7 posts | 6 read | 4 to read
"Somethingtofoodabout puts Questlove in conversation with notable chefs such as Ludo Lefebvre (Trois Mec/The Taste), Dominique Crenn (Atelier Crenn), and Nathan Myhrvold (Modernist Cuisine) to explore and share their different creative processes, how their philosophies have evolved, and how they work within the space of their restaurant--both physically and conceptually--to create experiences. Each chapter will center on one chef, opening with an essay that sets the context of the restaurant, and then moving into a conversation between Questlove and the chef. These chapters will be punctuated by gorgeous, artistic photography, illustrations, sketches, and sidebars that introduce us to the things that influence the chefs and inspire Questlove's curiosity about their food."

And here‘s one of the books I returned for someone else to read and enjoy. It‘s a fascinating collection of conversations between Questlove and chefs he admires, all shot through with photography to set the scene.

I love Questlove and watching The Roots on The Tonight Dhow. I also love that he loves food and reading and that two of the books on his 10 Favorite Books for Vulture feature food. A few of these were on my #TBR list already but I added several more. #BlameItOnQuestlove 📚📚📚😬📚📚😆

#libraryhaul Took📚back & picked up a hold of the tagged book-the ebook wasn't satisfying--I want to hold it & appreciate the photos. The other library books just jumped into the pile. We're finishing up Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows this month for #hpchapteraday & I want to be ready with The Cursed Child which I've not read yet. The top 2 were BOGO for $1 from the library bookstore. Oh, & a peanut butter & jelly cupcake followed me home😆

Librarybelle I really like the Mr and Mrs Darcy mystery series by Carrie Bebris - her ability to incorporate Austen's characters into each mystery is fun. 7y
DebinHawaii @Librarybelle Oh good! I've heard of them but not read them and .50 cents seemed like a good price to give the first one a try. 👍😀 7y
Librarybelle Definitely, @DebinHawaii . Hope you enjoy! 7y

#Characters2017 #jukeboxhero Catching up on yesterday's theme. The author of one of my current library e-book reads qualifies as a Jukebox Hero. A big reason I watch The Tonight Show is for Questlove-- I like his music, his creativity & his passion for food. I'm reading this one as an Overdrive e-book on my tablet, but I need to see if my library has the print book as I want to hold it & look at the pictures. #tryingnottobuyallthefoodiebooks 😆📚

I've been enjoying Questlove's writing for a while and am really into food/food culture, so this did not disappoint. Fun and fascinating interviews he did with some great chefs interwoven with his own musings about the creative process. Wish there had been more women chefs/chefs of color, but otherwise a really fun read.

ImaginativeMom I've been curious about this one. Thanks for the review! 8y

Part coffee table book. Part journalism. Part philosophy. All food. Love the cover especially!
