Kabu Kabu
Kabu Kabu | Nnedi Okorafor
Kabu kabu--unregistered illegal Nigerian taxis--generally get you where you need to go. Nnedi Okorafor's "Kabu Kabu," however, takes the reader to exciting, fantastic, magical, occasionally dangerous, and always imaginative locations you didn't know you needed. This debut short story collection by an award-winning author includes notable previously published material, a new novella co-written with "New York Times"-bestselling author Alan Dean Foster, six additional original stories, and a brief foreword by Whoopi Goldberg.

This is a collection of short stories in a variety of genres. I thought most of the stories were interesting, but a couple did make me realize again I really don't like horror. #Booked2022 #TitleRepeatsItself @Cinfhen @4thhouseontheleft @BarbaraTheBibliophage

Cinfhen Horror is very hit or miss for me. But when done “right” I LOVE IT!!! 2y

Running low on Okorafors I haven‘t read yet. I‘ll need to start pacing myself.

3.5 rounded up to a 4. I still enjoy her writing but as with most collections, some stories outweigh others.

Loved this live reading of The Winds of Harmattan from the tagged book on the most recent season of #LevarBurtonReads. The conversation with author Okorafor afterwards was a special treat. I listened this weekend as part of my efforts towards #12intwo. #audioreads #diversereads #shortfiction

This is a marvelous story! It‘s so short I don‘t think I can reveal much without ruining it. Man with a passion for Dodos.........questions about fulfillment.

Kaye I like your BLING on your kindle. Very pretty. 6y

Shoe closet my foot! This is now my TBR closet. 😂

A move to a new home, teaching, and taking a class has crimped my bookish life. 🤨 I‘m really liking the tagged short story collection, but I‘m so tired when I fall into bed I only get in a couple pages.

RidgewayGirl Excellent use of space! 6y
erzascarletbookgasm I‘ll rather see it packed with books than with shoes! 👏👍 6y

Reviewsbylola I love he idea of a book closet!! 6y
RebL Excellent use of space, which I‘m sure you know. It makes me want to separate my TBR. It could curb book purchasing and reduce browsing time, all the while feeling like an indulgence. 6y

I‘ve been looking forward to this story since I saw it on the list for season two of #LevarBurtonReads and it did not disappoint! Okorafor‘s prose is expressive and expansive, painting a vivid picture. I could see the scenes she set so clearly in my mind as I listened.

I have no less than five books by Okorafor between hardcopy and Kindle — definitely need to make her work a priority when pulling from my #TBR list!

Ok, I had to share this. This is the best I could do to get it all in one picture.
I borrowed this book Kabu Kabu by Nnedi Okorafor from overdrive. It is a book of short stories, so I guess I was expecting something more along the lines of Binti. This made me laugh so hard because it was so unexpected. The story is called The Magical Negro. This is just the main parts of the story. Happy Monday 😂

Working my way through the second short story of Kabu Kabu, but I might need to take an Okorafor break... or maybe I am not in the mood for short stories.

As I always find with short story collections, some I loved and some were just meh, but I thought this was a strong collection overall. Now I'm moving on to North American Lake Monsters, accompanied by an adult bananas foster milkshake.

#booktober #shortstories Most of my favorite short story collections had already been posted, so I decided to go with this one that I just started. My first Okorafor was Binti, which I loved, and then I read Lagoon, which I really enjoyed. I've only read the first two stories but it's great so far.

What a brilliant collection of short fiction this is. Okorafor will take you places you can't imagine exist, at first just hovering an inch above the floor, then floating just below your ceiling and ultimately sailing over the treetops. I love the lyrical storytelling, and the pure novelty of the stories. This is my 2nd title by Okorafor; I will be looking for more in the future. Image credit: K Hutchison, Oregon Country Fair 2016.

Like most short story collections, Kabu Kabu has a few weaker additions, but I found more gold than I did stinkers. The combination of fantasy, horror, and scifi all set in a Nigeria of some form made starting each story an enjoyable experience.
