Italy acquires Umberto Eco library and archive

"The acquisition follows an agreement between Eco's family and the culture ministry, with the state to guarantee the conservation of the remarkable heritage, making it accessible to students and scholars."

batsy That's wonderful. I don't know if you saw this? https://twitter.com/tedgioia/status/1351432153922416640?s=19 3y
kalinichta @batsy I have seen that! It's what I think of any time his library is mentioned. 3y

“Usually the recipe for a bestseller is to give people what they want. My challenge is and was: give them what they do not expect. Be severe with them. The world of media is full of easy answers, wash-and-wear philosophies, instant ecstasies, what-me-worry Epiphanies. Probably readers want a little more.”

Eco is a phenome. Short essays that are structurally beautiful. I'd of thought it was DFW if I didn't know.

Can't wait to read Foucault's Pendulum.

Calling all UK Littens! The Harrogate Literature festival is on for a long weekend in October. I‘ve booked for 5 events (so far!) so if anyone else is interested let me know....

The attached pic only shows a few of the events being held.

Oryx Looks good! I'm away with work that weekend unfortunately, otherwise might have tried to make it to some. Who are your seeing? 6y
Bronte_Chintz I might be away, but I‘ll check it out. I‘m dying to do a literary festival! 6y
Cathythoughts Oh you lucky Littens... sounds fab 6y

??? My faces as I'm unpacking my books into my favorite bookcase that happens to only fit in out bedroom. My partner told me "No books with negative energy!"

Tamra Good advice! 7y
jveezer Haha! Probably. But maybe a bit counterproductive to getting all those boxes of books unpacked. Now I have to ponder more... 7y

Since this is technically a #bookishwouldyourather I would technically rather to mood read, even though I never do 🙈I hardcore plan out my reading because I just can't help myself.

Kalalalatja I'm so impressed with all the planners! I try to plan all the time, but then I don't want to read the books I have planned to read 😅 7y

#booknerdconfessions

💢I get the majority of my books from my awesome library, but nothing beats browsing a bookstore.
🔆I am absurdly particular about the condition of my books. I like them to be pristine, with high quality paper and a new book smell.
🍀Book podcasts get me through the week.
🌀I never eat while reading. Only coffee or tea ☕️
☂️I keep a journal of my favorite quotes and TBR ideas.

Finally, a porn video for the Litsy crowd! I quit smoking two years ago, but I almost fell off the wagon and went out and bought a pack after watching this…
