This book was very interesting and hard to put down. I have never read about a near death experience before and it was thrilling. I especially find it amazing that this account comes from a neurosurgeon whose mind had previously thought things like this foolish and or unexplainable. I‘m glad my sister lent me a copy 😊 and here‘s a pic of my two biggest reading distractions ❤️

Totally fell asleep on the couch with this one last night 🙃 Apparently I can‘t read all night anymore 😢

Recommendation from my sister and already it‘s pulled me in 😊 My Darth Vader pjs and I may just have to be up all night with this one 😜

I read this in 2013 and found it very interesting!

My reading has taken a different direction. 3 weeks ago, my beloved Fiancé was killed in a motorbike accident. I got this book to investigate anything he may have experienced while passing from this reality to another (if that even exists).. this has been good, but has opened more questions for me, as an already inquisitive scientist. I would recommend to anyone who is interested in finding out more about what may be in the afterlife.

I wonder if it‘s really important to discuss whether there _is_ a soul/consciousness detached from the brain or whether all near-death experiences (NDEs) result in brain chemistry or lack of oxygen❓🤔 Isn‘t the important point that most of the people reporting of NDEs are doing so with joy and a feeling of love and comfort❓ For me this “feels” way better than having fear of death or NDE-reports of afterlife-horrors, which are few but also exist.

You know, I am a bit of a scam. Shortly before posting my review I changed my final rating from “So-so” to “Pick”. 😇

Yes, towards the end it seems a bit lengthy and maybe a bit repetitive and rosy to me but Alexander also gives an overview of other authors who did near-death research or wrote books about it. And that‘s quite interesting for everyone who is interested in this topic.

It‘s between a “Pick” and a “So-So”.

I think I made too long pauses between my listening because I had to do a quick research to identify his main point. It‘s that consciousness isn‘t linked or created in/by the brain but exists detached from it.

The rating of this book might consequently be a question of (dis)belief in his thesis.

Some parts I really enjoyed, especially in the beginning, others, towards the end are lengthy to me.

Continuing with this one. I‘m really interested in the audiobook but because bad news don‘t stop coming in it‘s giving me a hard time. I can‘t really engage with it at the moment because my mind wants to wander off. Mostly I manage to concentrate but as I observe myself I realise that I am questioning or putting off more things than I did before. I lost a bit of my open-mindedness due to my worries.

One third of the book is already gone while cutting, cooking and eating. I realised that I must have listened to more of it last night than I thought, but all in all not more than 7 minutes in total.

I like it even though I find myself being more sceptical than I thought. It‘s the fact that the author is a scientist/physician that prevents me from pooh-poohing it as I surely would easily have done by now if it had been told by John Doe.

And with this audiobook it was quite funny. It‘s about a surgeon‘s fascinating near-death experience. I started it yesterday night. But all I remember is a voice telling me the title of the book, its author, and who is reading it to me.

After that I remember, well, nothing. 🌑 💤

I have read and enjoyed these books about people who have gone on journeys.

I was obsessed with this book! It had science and some thoughts on a higher power. A must read.

I enjoyed this book. It was a story of near death experience but I really liked that it was from a neurosurgeon‘s perspective with such a scientific background. I loved the end when he gets into the science of consciousness.
