Bambi's Children: The Story of a Forest Family
Bambi's Children: The Story of a Forest Family | Felix Salten
5 posts | 4 read | 2 to read
Meet the new fawns in the forest: the descendants of Bambi discover the woods in this refreshed edition of the sequel to Bambi, complete with new illustrations. Twin fawns Geno and Gurri are the children of Faline and Bambi. The pair must grow up and navigate the world of the woods with the help of their mother and Bambi, the new Prince of the Forest. But for young fawns, the wild can be dangerous. Gurri is injured by a fox and has a run-in with the most dangerous of creatures: man. Geno is challenged by rival deer and worries about the impending fight. But when the family begins to fall apart, it is the familiar presence of Bambi who tries to set it right again. This beautiful repackage of the sequel to the beloved classic Bambi, tells the story of a forest family and the struggles of growing up. Complete with brand new illustrations from artist Richard Cowdrey.

This was a favorite of mine when I was young. And it has led to me collecting more of Felix Salten's books. This is not the one I had as a kid though it is the same version. Very anthropomorphic, but part of its charm to me at that time.

Well this is frustrating. Look at these page numbers one page apart 😩😖 @CymbaX13 not fair. Anyone else ever have this happen? Or perhaps know what I'm missing please ❓❔❓❔I'm missing chapter 18 and 19!

Scochrane26 I‘ve had that happen recently, but luckily, it was a book I had just bought. The bookstore checked all their copies, then ordered me a new one. 3y
hannah-leeloo I ordered this a while back from amazon @Scochrane26 😔 3y
Birdsong28 @hannah-leeloo Yes I have had this so I contacted the publisher and they sent me a new one. Send them an email with pictures of this and hopefully they will replace it. 📚 📖 3y

hannah-leeloo Thank you @Birdsong28 I'll try that 3y
zezeki I had that happen to me a couple of times. One time, the pages were just missing, but the second time, I found the missing pages in the later part of book, so they weren't actually missing, the order was just a bit messed up. 3y
MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm Whoa! I‘ve never seen this! 🤯 3y
hannah-leeloo I don't know if that would bother me more @zezeki 😅 3y
zezeki It was a library book, so I wasn't that upset. 😅 3y
rabbitprincess Oh no! That‘s annoying 🙁 3y
hannah-leeloo I'm trying to continue and make sense of it but I can't help but be fed up about it @rabbitprincess 3y
ReadingVampire Omg! 😱 I‘ve never seen this before! 3y
TheAromaofBooks That's pretty frustrating... I do happen to own an old copy of Bambi's Children if you need to know what happened! 😂 3y
hannah-leeloo It seems like a dramatic scene i missed. I've read it to the end now but can't help feeling I've missed something important @TheAromaofBooks 3y
TheAromaofBooks haha well in Ch 18 Bambi & Faline find Rolla & she's been shot in the leg by the hunter. R is very worried about her children, so B&F tell her to stay where she is & they will go find her children by the feeding station put up by the brown he. On the way they see other animals that have been killed & reflect on the senseless killing by humans. The find the children & send them to Rolla. 3y
TheAromaofBooks In Ch 19, it begins to snow & the brown he feeds the animals & everything seems fine, but the magpie has a premonition that something is wrong in the woods. The screech owl says that he has seen a wolf, but the narrator tells us that it's actually a huge dog named Nero who is bored & has been allowed to wander since his owner (the mayor of the town) has been ill. Nero has discovered the woods & begun to hunt in them... 3y
TheAromaofBooks Hope that helps!! I didn't enjoy Bambi's Children as much as I enjoyed the original story, but it was still a decent read. 3y
hannah-leeloo Thank you @TheAromaofBooks I agree the original is better. I appreciate you filling in the gaps ❤ 3y

Ended up in another reading slump so kids picked me a book again. I shouldn't have been surprised that they both picked this.🦌🦉🐇🐿 I'll read it for them now. Happy reading everyone 📚❤📖

Buechersuechtling Aaaawwww‼️😍 I loved the Disney movie when I was a child and just now, when I read the database entry, discovered, that there obviously is a sequel to the original standalone, since the database says, this book is kind of refreshed. But, anyway, please let me know if it reaches the cuteness level of the Bambi I know (or better: recall 😉) from the movie. 💗 3y
hannah-leeloo The films are one of our favourites too. The first book was different to the film character wise. Still enjoyable though. The second book looks to be different to the film also, whereas the 2nd film was based in the relationship between Bambi and his dad this book seems all focus on Bambi's kids but I haven't read it yet to be sure haha @Buechersuechtling 🦌🐇🦉 3y

Pickpick

Published ten years after the original story, this sequel feels like it's trying a little too hard. Not a bad story, but a lot of dips in the action (like the tree conversations) and overall less coherency than Bambi. On the edge between a pick and so-so. Also, book 11A for May's #BookSpinBonanza.
