AN ELITE FIGHTING FORCE UNLIKE THE WORLD HAS EVER SEEN . . . Scouring the darkest corners of the Highlands and Western Isles, Robert the Bruce handpicks ten warriors to help him in his quest to free Scotland from English rule. They are the best of the best, chosen for their superior skills in each discipline of warfare. And to lead his secret Highland Guard, Bruce chooses the greatest warrior of all. The ultimate Highland warlord and a swordsman without equal, Tor MacLeod has no intention of being drawn into Scotlands war against the English. Dedicated to his clan, the fiercely independent chief answers to no oneespecially not to his alluring new bride, bartered to him in a bid to secure his command of the deadliest fighting force the world has ever seen. The treacherous chit who made her way to Tors bed may have won his hand, but she will never claim his heart. Although her husbands reputation is as fierce as his manner, Christina Fraser believes that something softer hides beneath his brutal shell. But the only warmth she feels is in their bed, in glorious moments of white-hot desire that disappear with the dawn. When Christinas reckless bid to win her husbands love goes awry and thrusts them into danger on the eve of war, Tor will face his ultimate battle: to save his wife and to open his heartbefore its too late. From the Paperback edition.

Did I listen to this book in anticipation of the end of Draughtlander and because I needed some Scottish 🔥 in my life? Yes.

Does this book make up for its cheesy dumb cover with a solid histfic storyline, perfectly tolerably characters, and very sexy sexy-times? Again, yes.

Romance itch successfully scratched, though Tor MacLeod is (of course) no Jamie Fraser. 😉

⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

Deifio The castle in the background looks like Neuschwanstein 🤣 3y

This book was better than I expected. Usually when writing romance novels about near actual historical events, the relationship of the character suffers. But this book was a good balance of history, storyline, and character development.

I‘m not afraid to say that I loveeed this book! When I read books, I‘m always most intrigued by the love stories. It‘s so nice that this entire book was about the characters emotions and complicated relationship. With a happily ever after. It was just a feel-good book that kept me interested the entire time. I think I‘m hooked on books with hunky highlanders on them too.

I‘m currently going through “droughtlander” and this helped me through it!

Having a little beef jerky with my beefcake this afternoon 😉. Seeing so much Outlander stuff at SDCC last week put me in the mood for some Highlander romance.

"I'm still alive but I'm barely breathing." I love my family. I do. But out of town guests are hard even when it is a short visit. Have not had had enough quiet time and have not read a single page today. So I am going to stay up past my bedtime tonight to make a dent in my book before meeting up with everyone for breakfast. #breakeven #melodicmay

Cinfhen I feel you!!! No truer words have been spoken/ sung?!!!! I get lots of visitors, which is awesome but sometimes you want quiet. Enjoy 😊 family is the best, even with all the hassles 💕💕 8y
CoverToCoverGirl Ah... family represents the best of times and the worst of times... Juxtaposition at it's finest 😳😎❤️ 8y
Jas16 @Cinfhen @CoverToCoverGirl Thank you both for understanding! It was great to see them but I am so excited to go home tonight and be alone. 8y
SaturnDoo I agree. You want/need to visit BUT everyone including the visitors need quiet alone time. It's hard to convince them of that though. You are not alone on this one. I feel ya too💕💕💕 8y

Great start to the Highland Guard historical romance series, which is set in the time of Robert Bruce. If you love Scotland, you'll love this book.

I'm glad I started the series from the beginning when I decided to follow the post on OSRBC about marriage of conveniences. Tor is easily a hero I admire, dedicated, trustworthy, a natural leader respected by his clan. Christina, a young innocent yet selfless girl who decided to throw her fate at the sight of the charismatic man. #osrbc #romantsy

Enjoyed this! The characters were very well written, the love story was hot, and the historical/action portion was good too. 👍🏻
