Covers the subject of poverty very well. That's about the only positive. It dragged on, and on, and on. I was expecting a thriller, yet it wasn't. It was more of a family drama. Extremely unrealistic in that everything didn't work out OK, but everything worked out GREAT. Was very glad to finish this.
Kudos to Susan Lewis for tacking the themes of poverty, drugs, and grooming so sensitively, though.

Susan Lewis, Home Truths
.
Angie hasn‘t seen her son since her husband was beaten to death by the mob that her son had also been apart of. Having her daughter also separately blackmailed by an internet predator and herself bullied by her landlord pushes Angie near to breaking point. At her lowest she asks the help of a stranger and it‘s at that moment that her life will never be the same again. Thought provoking, harrowing and an enjoyable read.

This one felt intense! Angie and her children deal with so much hardship and loss. I‘m not sure Angie made the best choices throughout, but I always felt like she had tremendous love for her children which guided her actions. I felt super stressed about her daughter‘s relationship with social media and messaging with strangers because Grace didn‘t really understand the possibility of danger. I love that Lewis makes me FEEL things with her books.

This is quite a heart wrenching read. It deals with some difficult issues and some very current ones as well. This was an interesting read but didn't quite go the way I expected it to. I wanted to know more about the stuff with her husband, it seemed to be glossed over rather quickly. The rest of the story however was well written and had me praying for a happy ending. The ending was touching and ended the story well 3*

I won this book from Readers First. The opening pages of this book are hard-hitting, brutal, and lead one to believe they are going to get a gritty novel. Sadly, the rest of the book never quite lives up to the prologue. There‘s a lot of, in my opinion, unnecessary padding that doesn‘t move the story along, and things being brought in that never really go anywhere. It had the makings of a great book, but had been poorly executed.

1. The second piece of cake/biscuit/bit of chocolate....

2. A picture by a Japanese artist of a cat stretching. It was so reminiscent of our recently departed Millie that I had to get it.

3. Tagged, an advance copy from Readers First.
