Ruthiella I agree tho I have no scientific reasoning. I prefer text but when the audio narration is good and I can give enough brain space to listening, it is the same. Usually I can‘t even remember if I read or listened. 6y

One of my favorite reference books about my craft. Lisa Cron takes you into the mind of the reader, helping you to understand what keeps them turning the page. She demystifies some myths, and shows that hooking the reader isn't as complicated as we've been taught. She never acts like it isn't hard work, on the contrary, only that our minds want to learn how to get out of certain situations... a means of survival.

bmsddk @RStorey Awesome!!! 👏👏👏 I've read well over a hundred EU/Legends (adult and kids), and still have many left to get through! Haven't started any of the new Canon yet, but they're on my TBR list. I chose that The Last of the Jedi cover because it was one of the few with a good picture of Obi-Wan Kenobi (on my top Star Wars characters list) ☺ What are some of your favourite Star Wars series? 9y

lilredhen TNG, DS9, LOTR, Lunar Chronicles, Six of Crows. Don't ask me to pick my fave of each series, it's hard enough picking favorite fandoms lol 9y

Eyelit I have coloring books for tv shows (doctor who and Sherlock so far - but Firefly and Buffy will be out soonish)... and I only have one literary coloring book and it's for Locke & Key. It's all right. I want the Jane Austen one and I've seen a Poe one floating around 😃 9y

lilredhen Next Gen, l like the optimism and rosy outlook they have-even when lousy things happen, they are still an optimistic bunch. DS9 is interesting for its exploration of religion and racism (look deep, you'll see it) 9y

lilredhen LOTR was a bedtime story my mom read to us (yes, a bedtime story; it's one of the first I remember her reading to us) and I love the down to earth nature of the hobbits, their quiet and simple lifestyle and the contrast with the more "advanced" races 9y

lilredhen Lunar Chronicles-love the riffs on fairy tales. I love fairy tales, and I love a good retelling. Six of Crows-they aren't heroes, and they don't pretend to be. They are flawed, but their stories are so rich and so understandable that I love them for how they turned out. 9y

lilredhen As far as those who read them and love them I find that the Star Trek fans are, for the most part, optimists with a forward thinking perspective. LOTR readers I know are deep thinkers-they read and re read the books, picking something wonderfully new out each time-and they also favor a quieter way of life for the most part. 9y

lilredhen Lunar Chronicles and Six of Crows-I haven't met a lot of people who have read them outside of Litsy, and I think y'all are just awesome lol. 9y

bmsddk @lilredhen One of the primary reasons I love DS9 is how tastefully provocative it is! They seemed to address some meatier issues more head-on than the other series did. Did not end all those episodes as hopefully as with TNG, but almost always thinking. I can imagine it would be fun to have LOTR read out loud to you; it would bring to life all the lyrical description 😀 9y

bmsddk @lilredhen I made my sister and Mom read Lunar Chronicles and Six of Crows (they loved both), but other than them, I've also not met people outside of Litsy who have read them 😂 Last year someone asked me why I was counting down to Nov. 10, and they gave me a weird look when I told then it was for Winter's release date 😜 You guys are great with understanding things like that! 9y

bmsddk @lilredhen Lunar Chronicles was a fun mildly scifi retelling with several thematic and character layers. What other fairy tale retellings do you enjoy? I loved the growth of our anti-heroes in Six of Crows, and the writing quality is sharp! Those are interesting observations about personalities in different fandoms. 9y

lilredhen @bmsddk Robin McKinley has a whole slew of fairy tale retellings that I love-Spindle's End, Deerskin, Beauty and Rose Daughter, as well as quite a few short stories. Jessica Day George has some great retellings, too, starting with the Twelve Dancing Princesses and going from there. 9y

lilredhen And yes, LOTR read aloud is a completely different thing, especially if the reader hits a good cadence. 9y
