It's an art book with a small amount of text, depicting an alternative later-20th-century with robots, dinosaurs, hovercraft, and weirdness. It's brilliant and gorgeous and enthusiastically recommended.

Now I can watch the Amazon series, though I'm already pissed that they moved the setting from Sweden to &@#€ Ohio.

Zoes_Human I was disappointed in the TV series. 3y
swynn @Zoes_Human Dang, I'm disappointed to hear that. Although frankly, I sort of expect it. 3y
Zoes_Human @swynn You may like it better than me, but I felt it missed the mark on recreating the atmosphere of the books. 3y

Although I‘ve read from several different books so far today for #24in48readathon, this was the first that I finished.

The illustrations in here are Amazing! The text though, mostly just felt like micro-story explanations for the pictures. I was hoping for a more cohesive story, like The Electric State. 🤷â€â™€ï¸.

This was my #doublespin for this month.

Librariana I've never read The Electric State, but have been intrigued by its cover before... I want to say it's even in my goodreads TBR! 3y

Book adjacent post: I just discovered amazon has created a series loosely based on the graphic novel I read and loved last year. I know what I‘m doing this weekend!

From a review: Nobody would accuse Tales from the Loop of being gripping, but it has other qualities, rare in a frenetic era: it is thoughtful, patient, and unafraid to leave its Big Questions open-ended. This is slow television for slow days... this is a curious joy.

Things that keep me from joining any reading: Pen & Paper Roleplay. Today: alternative 80s in Sweden by Simon Stålenhag. There are also illustrated books from him and there is an Amazon series in the making!
Creating stories yourself is just as good as reading books ðŸ˜

It is a loosely book related post, so I thought it's ok to post here ðŸ˜

Chrissyreadit Sounds very creative. 4y
LibrarianRyan Always okay. Doom away! 4y
rockpools I‘m kind of intrigued. And your friend there looks totally engrossed in it all! 4y
wanderinglynn That looks like so much fun! 4y

A different kind of book: an roleplaying book. Tales from the Loop is about kids that live in in the area of a particle accelerator in an alternate 80's by Simon Stålenhag. Robots, and magnetrine ships are common and the occasional door to another time or reality can happen around the Loop.
You create kids that get in trouble, solve mysteries and face their personal problems. Non-lethal, because kids don't die.

Anecdotes/memories of a young man in an alternate version of 80‘s/90‘s Sweden. A local particle accelerator creates strange situations for the town inhabitants. Robots left derelict in fields. Modified creatures roaming farms. Rifts in the space-time continuum bring dinosaurs to the present. I enjoyed the art and the accompanying sparse tales.

tournevis Love it! 5y
JazzFeathers I discovered this artist a couple of years ago. He's brilliant. And the, you know, l'm an 1980s gal. 5y

I‘ve got my #24in48 physical books #tbr stack somewhat sorted. These are the books I hope to start and finish over the weekend. I‘ve got another stack of currently in progress books that I hope to make some headway in or complete this weekend as well. I‘ve also got Middlemarch and Norse Mythology on audio for when I need to move around. 🤞🤪
