#7Days7Books

Day 3

I received Small Days and Nights as an ARC from Powell‘s #Indiespensable subscription. There‘s something really real and raw about this novel. Another one that has stayed with me.

Picture is of the author holding her book (off internet).

This was a lovely story about a woman who decides to move back to India after her mother dies and she finds she has a sister with Downs Syndrome to care for her. Right is just so lush.

Small Days and Nights is a gorgeously written novel of a Indian Italian young woman who finds she has inherited an older sibling she did not know existed who has Down's Syndrome. Gracia struggles with her return to India, off kilter as an outsider surrounded by strangeness. The language by this poet author is gorgeous while the story is slow paced at times but with some deeply tragic moments highlighting her vulnerability in her setting.

There is so much here! A woman comes to India to bury her mother. She receives a house & land as inheritance and learns the secret her family has kept from her. She decides to make the house her home and the book is her journey to figuring out her own path. The book focuses a lot on relationships, sacrifice, sense of belonging, meaning. It contrasts modern & traditional India. It is beautiful, raw, and unexpectedly crude at times. I loved it. 5 ⭐️

Nothings been catching my interest in the past few days. Started five different books and nothings sticking. Hoping that this will be different - excited about this #ARC.

This one comes out in the US in January. It‘s a beautifully written, quiet novel about a woman returning to India and her family after living in America. It‘s not political. It‘s a family story and a story about finding purpose in the small things. I loved it.

Tamra Sounds great! 5y
