I like the concept of this well-written book: historical fiction with a bit of magical realism, set in a mountain community in Georgia in 1822. Dr. Waycross joins his modern medical training with the local healers (and possible witches) the Winter Sisters as a rabid panther stalks the woods. Folklore, superstition, and plenty of humor come together nicely, but I would have preferred more of the sisters and less of the doctor.🤷🏻‍♀️

This January I read six books. I completed my first ever audiobook. I also had two dnfs. All in all it was a decent month.

A city doctor moves to a Georgia mountain town, where he witnesses the amazing healing abilities of the local practitioners of herbal medicine, the Winter Sisters. He decides to join in practice with them. When a beloved daughter of the town gets rabies the Sisters are blamed. The doctor and the sisters must use all their knowledge to win against superstition.
This book is a pick but I was somewhat disappointed. I expected more.

I can‘t begin to tell you how much I loved this! It catered to my interest in folklore and herbal medicine. It was such a unique story. I am so glad I read it.

Thankful to finally be able to get a decent chunk of reading done. I have been sick since last Saturday and I am just now getting back to normal. Enjoying a lovely night napping and reading while the husband plays Xbox.

As a Southern girl about to eat a traditional New Years dinner of black eyed peas, turnip greens, and collard greens this will be the only way I ask for my pepper sauce. I‘m loving The Winter Sisters.

It is 1822 and the Winter sisters are described by some in the town of Lawrenceville as witches, and by others as healers; it really depends on what one needs from them. The Winter Sisters was a good story, but there were some parts that seemed a little slow. I liked the characters and I enjoyed watching the growth that occurred in of many of them as interacted with each other and worked to overcome various problems and obstacles.

In the 1800‘s and The Winter Sisters are the only “healers” in a small, remote north Georgia logging town. The only problem is that the local minister believed that they were witches as they were healing with herbs and other natural remedies. The mayor sent for a Hippocratic doctor who was taught to bleed people and to amputate infected limbs. Eventually, the doctor and the sisters work together blending the best treatments from both disciplines.
