I can't take credit for this haiku as I remember it from a prohibition museum I visited in GA a few years back. But it fits this memoir SO. WELL. Highly recommend this book to anyone who is suffering from addiction, or knows someone suffering from addiction, or is simply curious about the mindset of an addict. Long story short - a good read.

Lisa Smith is a lawyer who lives on the edge, always partying harder & longer than is prudent. She reaches a breaking point after a year of guzzling vodka and/or snorting cocaine 1st thing in the morning and checks herself into a hospital to detox. The middle is repetitive with the constant inner dialogue begging for a drink, but that lends itself to the severity of her situation. Parts 1&2 lack some reflection, but it‘s a scary/shocking read.

Decided to #bingelisten the last 4+ hours of this just to get it over with. Memoir of a recovering cocaine and alcohol addict. I would say more than half the book is her complaining and wishing she had a drink, or that she could drink. That is a big part of addiction and recovery, but there was little else to give the book and story substance. More power to her for gettin sober that‘s huge. The book she wrote wasn‘t good.

This memoir about@addiction was very real and interesting. It showed how unlikable the author was while using and how she changed with her sobriety. It was well written and very interesting!

This book is ok so far, not great but ok. I‘m only an hour if that into it.

I'm trying Hoopla out with this book. Not sure I'll be using Hoopla that much, as it's only audio, but so far it's a positive experience. I also tried to read The Aeneid on Serial, but I quit because I hated the translation. I need to try out another book on Serial before I can really evaluate it.

3.5🌟 Overall a pretty good audiobook. I'm downgrading it because the text was a bit repetitive, and the narrator was a bit mediocre. I'm glad they went with a narrator that could modulate voice between people, but that narrator could've done a better job at that.

Sorry I haven't been checking other people's posts like I should. Things are a bit crazy with trip planning, long work days, and more freaking dentist appointments!! ❤️💜💗💖 You all!!
