The Wave: In the Pursuit of the Rogues, Freaks and Giants of the Ocean | 
so-soCasey‘s focus is more on the daredevils who ride these giant waves than the science behind their creation and seemingly increasing frequency and I would have preferred just the opposite. I completely see that my nerdy “fewer thrills, more science” approach probably doesn‘t represent the majority opinion of this one though.
I love the ocean - so I really loved this book
pickThis was not what I expected. I thought it was going to be about giant waves and tsunamis. I'd say about 40% of it was about big waves, 10% about climate change and 50% about big wave surfers. I was tricked into reading a sports book, but I didn't hate it. It was actually a pretty good read. #nonfiction
pickFor what this book was about, it was great and I loved listening to it on audio. However, I was absolutely livid about the dismissive treatment of women in big wave surfing. There was a brief acknowledgement of Maya Gabeira and her accomplishments, but it was fleeting and no commentary on the sexist treatment of her as a female surfer by her male peers. I strongly feel that this deserved explicit treatment.

pickfinished this one on audio on the way home from work yesterday & quite enjoyed it. I liked how the author wove different perspectives of these waves - from the surfers huting out the best waves (I never knew toe in surfing was a thing before I read this) to the scientists research on them ⭐⭐⭐⭐
pickThis book, along with “Born to Run,” kicked off a fascination with GOOD non-fiction books for me. And by GOOD, I mean they taught me something I hadn‘t previously known and also kept me entertained. This book alternates with stories of surfers and their adventures with the history of surfing and causation of waves, etc. I recommend! #readingresolutions #waves @Jess7
