A heartwarming debut novel about a daydreamer who gives her town, and herself, an amazing gift: a lending library in her sunroom. When the Chatsworth library closes indefinitely, Dodie Fairisle loses her sanctuary. How is a small-town art teacher supposed to cope without the never-ending life advice and enjoyment that books give her? Well, when she's as resourceful and generous as Dodie, she turns her sunroom into her very own little lending library. At first just a hobby, this lit lovers' haven opens up her world in incredible ways. She knows books are powerful, and soon enough they help her forge friendships between her zany neighbors--and attract an exciting new romance. But when the chance to adopt an orphaned child brings Dodie's secret dream of motherhood within reach, everything else suddenly seems less important. Finding herself at a crossroads, Dodie must figure out what it means to live a full, happy life. If only there were a book that could tell her what to do...

Mehso-so

Nothing earth-shattering in this story about a woman who turns her sun room into a library.

Dodie is at a crossroad in her life. She is single, wants a baby, and feels like she has a deadline to make motherhood happen.

The book was entertaining enough to keep me reading, but I doubt it will stick with me.

A teacher, books, & a lending library…fun read that I just started.

Giving this a “so-so”- almost bailed; got bored in parts-maybe I am too old for this! But still would not recommend to teens- too many better books out there.

Bailedbailed

I don‘t think this is a bad book. In fact, I really enjoyed the first part. But then the main character began worrying about fertility issues, and that‘s a subject that hits too close to home. It started raising memories I just don‘t want to deal with right now. I might try it again another time when I‘m in a different frame of mind. I feel badly, because there was a lot I liked until then.

Caroline2 I completely understand. There are certain subjects that I just don‘t like reading about and I‘ll have to bail. 4y
mom2bugnbee Don't feel bad! One of the reasons that we read is to escape, and if that was your aim, you definitely don't need to be approaching that subject right now! Best wishes. 4y
LiteraryinLawrence That just happened to me with a book. I could tell it was well written but it was focusing on a topic that I wasn‘t up for right now, so I bailed. There are lots of books out there and it‘s ok to pick and choose what you‘re up for and what you‘re not. 4y

⭐️⭐️⭐️ My first time actually reading a #kindlefirstreads. This is a solid chit-lit type, or women‘s fiction, if you prefer. Anywho, Dodie wants to help everyone around her, but doesn‘t know how to help herself OR what *she* wants in life .... until she does. Then, she‘s all-consumed, alienating those who care most deeply about her. This is a solid debut. And there are lots of book cameos! Loved the first line.

rubyslippersreads I picked this one, so I‘m glad to hear you liked it. 😊 4y

“”..did she have any idea of the burning urgency of reading for a book-loving child, how two weeks was a complete eternity without a new book to dive into?”

Oh, how I relate! I remember crying when my mom wouldn‘t take me back to the library because I‘d read all the books I had checked out that morning.

This was my choice from Kindle First Reads. First time I‘m trying this, but it‘s free with Prime. A free book, why not?

PurpleTulipGirl I picked that one, too, but haven‘t started it yet. 4y
Crazeedi I picked one but I dont remember which one! Lol that's pretty bad... 4y

"I was holding the book innocently in my hands, like a normal library-goer. Which I was. Except for my overwhelmingly passionate desire to read books and reread them, hold them, surround myself with them, and yes...sometimes even smell them. It wasn‘t just the heady scent of glue in the spine. It was also the scent of the pages—timeworn or slicked with new ink—and the old cloth cases, how the linen had aged. The smell of imagination and escape."
