Libro.FM had this on one of their recommendations lists, so I grabbed it. Kind of a cozy mystery that takes place in New Orleans in the 30‘s, when an old friend of the star drag performer in a speakeasy is murdered on New Years Eve. The main character is bi, and reminiscent of a queer Nancy Drew. Out-guesses the cops in some cases. Fun, but just a low pick for me. Light pallet cleanser of a read.

Joining @Andrew65 in #12Booksof2021.
Thank Goodness I have a #MyYearinBooks Highlight on my Instagram!

From my Goodreads: Started reading on NYE and 1st book I read on New Year's Day. Decided to read along the Timeline into first few days of January. Last night I was so into it I finished a bit early.

Found Family and Tons of Representation. I would love to see this become a Series.

I liked the 30‘s mystery. Normally, when you read an timed piece, they talk like present day. But in this one, they use all the lingo from the 30‘s. My personal favorite was raccoon coat (rich person). 4⭐️

What a great story! Begins New Year's Eve 1929 at the Cloak and Dagger Speakeasy in New Orleans. Started reading on NYE and 1st book I started on New Year's Day. But then decided to read along the Timeline into first few days of January. Last night I was so into it I finished a bit early.

Reminiscent of the Frankie Drake TV series, but with a fun queer foundation. This cozy mystery is set in the 1920's in New Orleans at a gay club called "Cloak and Dagger." When a debutante turns up dead on New Year's Eve, their local drag queen headliner is the main suspect. It's up to our daring young Millie to find the real killer. Soooooo fun!

Bibliogeekery Sounds like a cute #queerbooks read. Thanks for drawing my attention to it! 3y

1st Read of 2021 is fabulous! I started on New Year's Eve. Decided to savour. Put it down when the story got to Millie waking up on New Year's Day. Can't wait to see where this adventure leads! ❤1️⃣📕

Takes place on New Years Eve in 1929 in the French Quarter, New Orleans. Millie works at the speakeasy her aunt owns, and her best friend Marion is the nightly act. As if running a speakeasy wasn't trouble enough, a rich judge's daughter ends up murdered right before midnight...and Marion is the main suspect. Keeping you guessing up until the very end, this book is not only fun, but also full of a diverse cast of characters.

Happy New Year 🎉🥂

I really enjoyed this! I am just an absolute sucker for a historical murder mystery but I don't know that I've read many that have queer characters where we aren't reminded every chapter about bigoted people's thoughts. It was kind of nice to not have a whole book of slurs towards the reps in here. I was NOT expecting the end so lots of guessing the whole way through.
