New York Times bestselling author Kevin Hearne returns to the world of his beloved Iron Druid Chronicles in a spin-off series about an eccentric master of rare magic solving an uncanny mystery in Scotland. Al MacBharrais is both blessed and cursed. He is blessed with an extraordinary white moustache, an appreciation for craft cocktailsand a most unique magical talent. He can cast spells with magically enchanted ink and he uses his gifts to protect our world from rogue minions of various pantheons, especially the Fae. But he is also cursed. Anyone who hears his voice will begin to feel an inexplicable hatred for Al, so he can only communicate through the written word or speech apps. And his apprentices keep dying in peculiar freak accidents. As his personal life crumbles around him, he devotes his life to his work, all the while trying to crack the secret of his curse. But when his latest apprentice, Gordie, turns up dead in his Glasgow flat, Al discovers evidence that Gordie was living a secret life of crime. Now Al is forced to play detectivewhile avoiding actual detectives who are wondering why death seems to always follow Al. Investigating his apprentices death will take him through Scotlands magical underworld, and hell need the help of a mischievous hobgoblin if hes to survive.

I forgot to take a picture of the book before I packaged it up but I'm finally sending you back your #LMPBC book @BethM 😅
Sorry it took me so long to get to, but I really enjoyed it! This was an interesting read - I love magic systems that seem almost scientific. The characters were fun and unique. I think I'll pick up the sequel sometime ☺️

This sounded like an interesting read, but it was too slow for me. 🫠

We're on holiday in Scotland. Hopefully I get to read some books in the evenings. Days will be hiking, beaches and sight seeing!

I LOVED this book. It's been a while since I've been so utterly mesmerized. This book had it all, a cursed main character, adventure, mystery, characters you want to know every detail about, and some laugh out loud moments you may want to be alone for. I loved every single second that I was in this world. It's an adventure with scary moments and you hope that Al has everything as much in hand as he appears to. 😅

A new series set in the world of The Iron Druid! Loved that the main character is an older gentleman, and looking forward to a little senior romance in book 2!

Not quite the same magic as the Iron Druid books, but still fun and interesting.

Read/Listened to this in one sitting.

MacBharrias is a sigil agent in his sixties. Suffers from a curse, has a badass manager, a Canadian receptionist who has seen a lot, and has just lost his seventh apprentice to a freak accident.

The audiobook comes with all the accents!

I've been anticipating this novel since I saw it mentioned by @hollyheartsbooks on YouTube. High fantasy with innovative world building and dialog. Great characters that are easy to love. The story has an intriguing magic system with dark themes and elements of humor. It was easy to stay interested in the story. Enjoyable read, I recommend this one! In Ink & Sigil we meet Scottish Sigil Agent Al McBharrais. An older gentleman with a well turned out mustache, cane, and a few curses upon his head. A Sigil Agent is kind of a combo between a spellcaster whose magic lies in the ink & symbols he draws & a gate/peace keeper of the pantheons. This book contains underground fight clubs, CIA spies, rogue trolls, wailing banshees, whisky heists, and just some generally fun shenanigans. Recommended!

I received this book for review. Set in the Iron Druid World (but not Atticus) I wasn‘t sure what to expect, but Hearne gave us a very relatable human protagonist who comes from a tradition set up to help keep the treaties with the different planes while Atticus was in hiding all those centuries. The fae are still glorious & clever, the magic is familiar but unique, and the sidekicks are hilarious & I already want to know more about all of them. ⤵️

Riveted_Reader_Melissa How can you not love a foul-mouthed troublemaking hobgoblin, a goth battle warrior with a wizard van, and a hacker extraordinary who goes by the moniker Saxon Codpiece 4y
