I enjoyed this because it has an interesting world where the sky changes based on the mythology of the people that reign over the land. Not too much happens plot wise aside from learning about the world and who the players are. It‘s basically all set up to a global war with one faction sowing discord among the major players.

Finally finished. Ever read a book we‘re the writer got so immersed in writing/describing the world they forgot they should include a plot. Well that‘s what this is, while there is a plot it‘s so small & sparse amongst the mass paragraphs of description about the world & horses (no I‘m not kidding) all plot parts were boring, short & never left me wanting more. (Also way to many characters.) 2 more in this set & im not looking forward to them.

This book is slowly killing me. I have 88 pages left and I haven‘t enjoyed this at all. Also the most annoying/worst part I have read so far in this book, was when a certain man was in a war rage and the only way to break it was to show him naked breasts of a woman... Really are you serious?!?!? Ughh I have never rolled my eyes so much as I did when I read that. And it only made me want to stop but with 88 pages left I might as well finish it.

I love when books include maps. Now if only the story was interesting that would be great. So far I am “enjoying” the parts with Temur but mostly I am very bored with it so far. Although I‘m forcing myself to read it since I waited so long to be able too. -_-

Finally starting this trilogy since the 2nd book is finally being sent to my library for my hold. This is a book where I know I‘m going to need to take my time and have no distractions. I‘m 70 pages into it and there has already been quite a few characters introduced as well as places and the names are not easy to remember. I feel overloaded already and I‘m not sure how I feel about that.

It took me weeks to read this because of a music festival and having a annoying cold with fever and a mild sunstroke. I don't know if I would have had such a hard time getting into it during a normal week. There is room for improvement, and I don't think this can be compared to GoT, but I enjoyed the setting very much! Also, it has a kick-ass steppe pony named Dumpling

Elizabeth Bear is my all-or-nothing author. I either love the hell out of her books or I struggle with them like nobody's business.

At first, I loved the hell out of this one with its weighty world and complex characters, but as it rolled along I struggled to connect with it. I'm pretty sure that was down to narrator Celeste Ciulla's too crisp, often overdrawn performance, so while I liked it enough to continue the series, I'll do so in print.

I did a lunchtime #audiorun today and it was weirdly hard. I definitely want to stick to morning runs from now on, whenever possible.

I loved the hell out of my current audio in the beginning, but I feel like I've lost the thread. Sadness. I sure hope I can sink back into it.

Always so many irons in the fire...

Once you get into it (I found it hard to start) it is a very interesting and compelling read. The novel is full of interesting turns and a bit of a cliff hanger leading to the next in the series.

The next book Shattered Pillars is definitely added to me reading list.

This-this was how Empires ended. With the flitting of wild dogs in the dark and a caravan of moons going dark one by one.

More fantasy by women! Trying to highlight lesser mainstream authors. Left starts the original trilogy and right is the start of a new trilogy set in the same world. Bear has done a ton of other stuff, all worth checking out.

Day 3 #readingwomenmonth - amazing covers. This series has such gorgeous cover artwork. Range of Ghosts is equally amazing, I haven't read the rest of the trilogy yet.
