The Mountain Is You
The Mountain Is You: Transforming Self-Sabotage Into Self-Mastery | Brianna Wiest
13 posts | 7 read | 2 reading | 24 to read
THIS IS A BOOK ABOUT SELF-SABOTAGE. Why we do it, when we do it, and how to stop doing it-for good. Coexisting but conflicting needs create self-sabotaging behaviors. This is why we resist efforts to change, often until they feel completely futile. But by extracting crucial insight from our most damaging habits, building emotional intelligence by better understanding our brains and bodies, releasing past experiences at a cellular level, and learning to act as our highest potential future selves, we can step out of our own way and into our potential. For centuries, the mountain has been used as a metaphor for the big challenges we face, especially ones that seem impossible to overcome. To scale our mountains, we actually have to do the deep internal work of excavating trauma, building resilience, and adjusting how we show up for the climb. In the end, it is not the mountain we master, but ourselves.

This was truly inspiring.
I learned so much about myself and how to change myself. And how I am my biggest problem, but also how I don't need to be.
I can honestly say that from starting this book to date, I've already identified some issues and changed my life for the better.

Will be re-reading/listen to this often.

Photo of my 1st ever embroidery since it has a mountain 🤣

Reading this as my “morning self improvement reading” an idea that I stole from 75 hard that needs a catchier name.

I really enjoyed this book. As someone who has anxiety, I appreciated the perspective of examining the cause of the anxiety & resistance vs. the “profound” take in some other books to “stop worrying so much”. I found it gave advice that was immediately actionable.

Taking time out after my therapy sessions to enlighten myself little by little! I really look forward to reading this every week. It's taking me a while to finish it, and I feel like that's a good thing. ☁️☁️☁️☁️

Was recommended this book and borrowed it from the library. A chapter in I knew it would be one I would read over and over and over so I immediately purchased it! Life has been hectic the past week, I can't wait for a snow day to snuggle up and keep reading this book ❄️🥰 This was one my book spin list this year and although it might take until February to read it I'm excited to work through it! #januaryreads #bookspin

This is an important book for anyone trying to find themselves and get out of toxic cycles. I‘m just disappointed that I wasn‘t able to find a copy in my country and had to read an ebook which is just hard for me. But I persisted in finished it. Feels like a hug. Highly reassuring. It not only highlights issues but gives reasonable ways to overcome them. Practical.

I‘m not sure if this quote is from this book or not, but I thought I‘d share it here anyway. I needed to hear this today.

slategreyskies I guess I needed to hear that struggles aren‘t in vain. Sometimes, it feels like they are, and I‘m still not convinced about the whole point of the mountain, but still... I do know that, when I push through the hard times, I come through stronger. 4y
TheAromaofBooks Love this quote. It also immediately put my in mind of the song 'Mountain at My Gate' by Foals. 4y
KVanRead Thanks for sharing. 💗 I really needed this today too. Also makes me think of the ol Irish may the road rise up to meet you/wind at your back one... mountains are important but I think we all could use a break from em right about now 😂 4y
