December #wrapup.

December was so busy I‘m surprised by how much I read! Great end to the reading year.

I‘m moving to StoryGraph, so here‘s one last #wrapup from Goodreads. Some stats are from my own spreadsheet and some from GR.

Out of 77 authors, 43 were new in 2024, 51 were women, and 18 authors of color. At least eight authors identified as LGBTQ and/or the story featured one or more LGBTQ POV characters.

Surprising no one, almost half (43) were mysteries. Six were MG/YA, 15 had a speculative element, and 18 were historical. More in comments!

Susanita This book hit many categories! Historical and speculative mystery written by an author of color. 6d

Ruthiella Great job! 👏👏👏 This makes me want to read more from the crime fiction/mystery genre because it is my favorite as well. 6d
Susanita Most shelved and almost but not quite the earliest published: 6d
Susanita @Ruthiella I participate in two mystery book clubs, which helps! Also making a concerted effort to read from series. 6d
Lcsmcat I‘m trying StoryGraph again and also Reading List. I had trouble keeping up with multiple apps last time I tried, but I really want to get away from all-Amazon-all-the-time! 6d
Susanita I read many books published in 2024, so I‘ll have to research the latest publication date while I watch the parade. Oldest/earliest published (1952): 6d
Susanita It turns out this is also the newest book I read in 2024 (published 5 November): 6d
Susanita @Lcsmcat StoryGraph is a little quirky from what I‘ve seen, but there are a lot of stats…and it‘s not Amazon. 6d

Which book was my favorite in December? Was it the intense historical novel that left me with a book hangover? Was it the intriguing cold case mystery? Was it the wistful story of siblings in space? Was it the charming prequel to a book that was a monthly favorite earlier in the year? Was it something else?

You‘ll have to wait until Sunday (if I counted correctly) to see! 😎

Another great reading month. Rewitched was a real clunker and There There was the stand out. Like Water for Chocolate was a favorite reread

It‘s 80F on October 31, and I‘m drinking iced mocha.

It was a pretty good reading month. Impossible Creatures was my favorite, and I also especially enjoyed the latest Tana French.

It looks like Beautyland is the odd book out in terms of the color story. 😄
